Pelican Point, WA, AU

short sail after kids dinghy training at mounts.

xfire102/evo7.0/talon 34

1st time back on the g10 talon for the year and prob the last time as the difference

between the glass talons and the carbon volts is quite substantial.

fun sailing- with lots of sailors out enjoying typical  swest conditions.

nice to finish the day off with the girl back at mounts bay with a beer and live music.

think we need to get the formula racing happening there.

Nice hour on the big girl Stringer. How did you find the 42 with it?

Went to slot my SD card into the SD card reader on my imac, only to, without looking, accidently slip it into the DVD slotYellCry

So no session recording and now an expensive trip to Next Byte service no doubt to fish the little fecker out  !Yell

still managed to get out with Rowan, Steve and Troutty for a while - nice little sail in the end after waiting for 2 hours for wind

Carbon Volt feedback:

Jesper lent me a 34 yesterday, so I tested it vs Choco FB's 34 & 36 on the RRD X-F 102 with Reflex III 7.0.....not the best day for the setup, but still....

I think the Choco had more power. The Volt felt stable and pretty slippery, but saying that I didn't get to go off the wind with it. The Volt pointed really well....very easy upwind. Also I felt trhat it made the board ride a little harder?

Anyhow, jury is still out...

cheers Macka, the 134 has been my go-to board of late... i was happily surprized to find that the 42 worked well in that board. best with the 7.8 and under but it even works with the 9.5! i think you'll find that there are a lot more gutsy than the Volts, the outline is much more powerful and there is a lot less flex which suits me in the light winds and flatter water (which is usually what you get when im on the 7.8 or 9.5) but yesterday had a few well lit moments on the combo i was using but never lost confidence in the fin/board combo. i have the 48 for the big board too and got to use it on saturday for the first time and as expected it performs really well in light winds.

Hi JC I can def recommend the carbon volts, especially in big sizes above 36cm.(although i have a 32 which is superb in the 102) The bigger g10s are ok and def nice fins but I feel they twist too much for My liking and thus create some stability issues. I find the carbon fins seem to flex Evenly and let the board ride up over the chop nicely in addition I recon you can go 2cm smaller than The equivalent g10. These are just my views. I won't be going back to g10 in big sizes. Just watch out for shallow water, carbon fins don't lean up like the g10s do.

Hey Snides

interested in more feedback on the carbon volts. From what everyone's being saying they seem pretty good. i know what you mean about the G10 Talons. Was out on my 121 yesterday with the Talon 44 and i lost count of the number of spin outs, didnt help that i didnt have enough downhaul on but compared to the upwind speeds Rowan and Steve were getting on carbon fins, well there was no real comparison. downwind a slightly different story but if you're on the big gear then you're probably alot of your time going upwind.

appreciate your thoughts.......cheers
