JJ (25827km):  3 categories    Leighton Beach, WA, AU Solo sail at Leighton - nice 18 to 20 knot breeze. Wasn't expecting too much as I had to sail without the cam on the batten under the boom, as the batten-end had broken on Sunday (again) So really pleased to get Leighton PBs in 2sec, 5 sec and 3 NMs over 28.5 knots Isonic 86, Hot Sails GPS 6.6 (2 cam), Venom 32 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Ricey (11089km): Pelican Point, WA, AU Started with 80l RRD board but not enough wind so changed to 98l RRD with 33 fin and 5.8m Koncept. The board change did the trick and a good afternoons sailing happened. Had a go at the N Mile which was quite comfortable on the RRD board. Managed a PB, and not so fast that I can't better it again, hopefully soon. Then got tired and kept falling in on jybes. Had a rest and what a diffference that made. | ||||||||||||||||||
Pointman (25080km):  2 categories After work sesh at Peli in a gusty seabreeze. Got down there at 4.15 and it looked pretty fresh, so I thought I'd chance a sesh on the new board...M112 + 7.6 TR7 + 38/40 Sting. First 20 minutes was a bit average, board felt under-finned and I couldn't get upwind. Changed up to the 40 Sting and she felt much better, more lively and I could point a lot higher. I think the 38 will only be an option for really powered up conditions with the 7.6 or 7.0. Had a pretty good sail. I was under-done a lot of the time, but the set-up felt sweet in the gusts. Got the peak speed on a nice powered up bearaway across the shallows at the end of the point. Tried for a couple of naughties, but the breeze was way too patchy for a decent mile. Breeze died in the ass around 6.30. I was way out the other side of the channel and thought I might be in for a long swim. Waited 10 minutes for a gust to waterstart, dogged half way back and finally caught a little squirt that got me most of the way home. The Mistral's length definitely got her planing up a little easier than my Futura 111, and likewise she is more stable to sail in sub-planing conditions. All in all a fun little sesh. | ||||||||||||||||||
