Coodanup, WA, AU

I went down to Coodanup for a putt around before holidays end. I was surrounded by the Mandurah Mobsters who told me that the Mandurah Water Police now require sailors to use a locally mad product before they can go on the water. This was news to me but they looked pretty serious, especially the one with a GPS on his head, so I paid up for a FangyFin 22.

Turns out the joke is on them, the fin was very good. Compared to the Delat XT 18 the spinout was almosts non-existent. I say almost because it got a bit spongy once but cleared immediately. I sailed through some major chop while pointing hard to get back to the speed run and there was no spinout. I reckon a bit of bump and jump my be possible. Gybing throught the weed was very nice as well. I went out early before the wind kicked in so was struggling for a while, plus there was a pair of crabbers wandering around in my prefered bear-off run. Anyway, gybes were much nicer because as I slowed through the gybe the weed couldn't pull me back off the plane as it did with the XT. Pointing off the plane seemed a little better, but hard to know. My numbers don't show much, I was fiddling around and had to get back to Perth in time for Yoga (not my Yoga).

Good fun sail at Liptons with Woody, Lunny, Hardie & Elmo. On my own for the first two hrs which seemed rare. Wind didn't come in as forecast so had a go at distance. Wind started to pickup as I startered tiring so called it. Almost forgot how good this place can be. A happy camper.

Arrived at Liptons to see Tim heading out in a lightish breeze. Lunny and Hardy arrived soon after also waiting for the forcast to prove correct before rigging. A few gusts were enough an hour later to rig and head out which was hardwork keeping on the plane for the most part. A few hours later things picked up a bit and enjoyed smooth gybes in over the weed. The last hour saw some 20 knot gusts and a few faster runs. Tried the Manta 54 which will be lively when the wind delivers. A fun session with good blokes in paradise. Great start to 2019, Manta 61 & 54 Vapor 6.4 wp 25.

Coodanup, WA, AU iS111, 6.2 Koncept, 24FF

Same gear as last time, similar wind (16 - 18 kn) but warm (35degrees) and fluffy, much less water.

Yay!!! I remembered!

It has taken my body 4 days to recover from my last session and I was a bit afraid that I might have forgotten how to gybe in that time, but I remembered! I wasn't expecting a PB today because I didn't feel I was going as fast. I was generally happy with my port tack gybes though and once again I did some very smooth ones late in the session. For the first time some of my minimum speeds in the gybes are in double figures. As Kenny said, I think I am on to something... I am starting to feel the gybes instead of having to think my way through them. Max speed in the PB gybe was 23.2 on the entry. Min speed 7.8. Five alphas over 18 kn. Only dropped one gybe today - on starboard tack.

Now to work on the starboard side. Might need to go to Liptons for some flat water on starboard tack to gybe in.

Despite the long walk out to the water, it was definitely a top ten Fangy Day. I doubt poor Jake (Mandurah Mob) would agree - he was stung by a cobbler!

I hope you are feeling better Jake. It was nice to meet you today.

Great effort Tim! 100k+ . When the wind isn't there, go for distance, I like your thinking. Congratulations on a hard earned PB. I hope Lunny and Mark backed that up!

The wind didn't deliver what we were expecting, but it delived some PBs regardless. Well done on your distance PB Woody, and good work Liptons crew, on improving our scores regardless of the lightish winds.

Wow! Going great Anita! The more you do the less you'll have to think about them.

I'm noticing that relearning how to gybe in chop is stuffing up my gybing a bit. I'm getting bad habits.. Recently at home I tried to run over the gybing sequernce in my head and I couldn't remember what I do..I've been on auto for so long in flatwater..Frown

Thanks Kenny, I would like to see if they look as good as they feel. Just make sure I don't know you are filming though, or I will probably muck up.

Whether I can translate the same to a smaller board and stronger wind s also in question, but I guess it will come.

Congrats all, didn't even realise there was wind anywhere yesterday. Waited at Scarborough but it didn't get to 15 knots. Had 3 runs with Matt and called it quits.

I found out today Peli was ok! Then Lunny said he sailed so I checked ...how odd, nothing at Scarbs.
