I was watching the forecasts for a while on this one. For the last 24 hrs, all the other 5 models agreed but the BoM did not. I thought it was a good chance anyhow and aimed to get down early to be rigged and ready when it hit. I was thinking that it might not last long and I was right, but it arrived about 15 mins too early for me while I was still rigging. The first blow was a 10 minute 35-40 knots WSW blast, so maybe it was OK to miss that. By the time I got out it had backed off to about 25 knots and my first 3 or 4 runs were mid to high 30's.

Then it picked up but also swung back a bit too westerly making the course very broad, There were 35-40 gusts though and it was weird running really deep off the wind, absolutely maxed on the 5.4m. All the pressure through my front foot, rattling over scary chop and thinking 'this has got to be fast'!.

Nope. The best run was just a 42 kt peak and 40.5 kt 10 sec. I think the nose of the board was just being driven down by the sheer power so broad! A bit disappointing speedwise, but still a great blast.

The wind got too broad to even get a run pretty soon after that so I walked all the way back to the car park. By the time I got there, the wind was almost gone and WNW anyhow.

That was a very hard session indeed. Wind swinging around but mostly too broad and gusting to over 35 knots at times.  Good to have a real strong wind blast though! Laughing

Board - CA40, Fin - Tribal 18cm assy, Sail - 2017 KA Koncept 5.4m on it's maiden voyage.
