Sandy Point, Vic

The forecast Easterly hammered in on queue. 20-25 when I was rigging as per forecasts. So I rigged the 5.7m. By the time I was rigged, some guys came in and said it had picked up a notch and there wer srtong gusts. So I rigged the 5.2m and went with that. At the start I was feeling underdone and stuggled to get going, but as soon as I got over to the falt side of the channel it was OK.

Fist run just as I turned in to the course I spun out the fin in the confused chop and had a slow speed tipover. No pain but I must have hit my phone on the mast as the screen was smashed. The last sound I heard from it was 35 knots as I spun out. Undecided

Went in and left the phone and GPS in the car and changed to my sym go to 17cm fin. All good now.

After a few runs I knew there was enough wind to go at least ow 40's, but the bank was about 10-15 degress too tight. The older part we used to run is now blocked by a sandbar, and outside of that sandbar it was quite choppy. I was stuck around 37-38 peaks and about 1 knot lower on the 10's. In the end I managed a couple of 39 peaks and one 40.2 but still too tight and a bit hairy trying to dodge the kiters and other windsurfers crossing the best bit of the speed strip.

Then the tide changed and the sandbar started to go under so I called it.

Nice to feel a bit of real power again, and the new 5.2m Koncept speed felt extremely good. Rock stable and super grunty, even on the tight angle.

CA40, Tribal 17sym. 2019 KA Koncept speed. GW52 GPS.

EDIT:

I went back to check out the high tide late arvo and saw a couple of sailors rigging for a session in the boat hole channel and it looke pretty good. I watched for a few minutes and suddenly realised the wind angle was spot on and the water pretty smooth. I quickly rigged the 5.2m again and jumped in on the speed board. Same gear as this morning.

Did a couple of runs with 38 peaks and started thinking that maybe I could get a 40. I cant remember doing that in the boat hole before?  Few runs later It all came together and I had a 40 peak. Another couple of runs later, and even faster one which was also the best 2 sec for the day. I dont think the wind gusts were as strong as this morning, but the angle was just perfect!
