Fangy's with TitanicRay Gun, Decrepit,Fin,Basil,Tomski,JJ,AC1,Geoff,Rod,and Stroppo. Excellent day with plenty of carnage thrown in. There will be some good Fangy Five scores out of today.

I lobbed down to my local just after breaky to find Raygun rigged and just about to head out. Generally only ‘Ken is seen about the place at such a ridiculous hour in the morning. But it was enough to inspire a text to Cap’n Calm that we had a threat to the Fangtastic Five Trophy already on water.

By the time I got back, the place was overwhelmed with pole dancers and one elderly accountant who only takes his speed boards out on a Sunday to church. Depending on what scores are posted I might have to disqualify most of them for taking my parking spot.

It was pretty gusty so I settled on the  Vintage Missy Edge and Koncept 6.6 with Delta 21. The tide was a bit too high to get smooth, but the chop was pretty small inside and mighty fine to just blast around on.

Except, occasionally Fangy’s bared its teeth with an assortment of obstructions ranging from weedburgs to stingrays to bite the unwary. Raygun had a monumental off when he took on a weedburg having just swapped out his Delta. I am really looking forward to the video off that. I went past to see if he was OK and I swear there was still a hole in the water. He looked totally smacked!

JJ bit it at speed, Fin bit his boom at speed and Basil just had speed ( until he bit it also). If Basil doesnt post PBs today I will be really surprised. He put down his ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ rigging manual and put up some serious sail area for his weight and the conditions.

Of course having shown a less than satisfactory concern for Raygun he got out his Voodoo doll the second I headed back out again. The result was the mast foot coming out of my board at 33 knots. Time did not slow down. It just all went bad in a split second and I crashed still hooked in but sans board.

Scratch another harness, scratch another carbon boom end and holy weird looking bumps Batman, what is that sticking out of my elbow? Almost instant egg on my elbow. As I type it’s getting a bit on the grumpy side of things.

Once I figured out that all limbs were present and accounted for it was time to attempt to run through the waist deep water to retrieve my board. It had of course taken off like a downhill skier downwind and was intent on getting to shore at Nairns before I could catch. I did contemplate letting that happen, but my memory of yesterday where the squadrons of crabs on the shore full of angry pills was pretty fresh. So I rescued my board and got nipped by half a dozen grumpy little sods out in the deeper stuff as well.

I grovelled back in after making a few repairs and I have to admit I think I was a bit shaken up.
I thought I might just ease off the pedal a bit and simply cruise for the rest of the day.I  changed down to my freshly delivered Koncept 5.8 (courtesy of Hardpole and JJ :-) and did just that.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to master gybing on the little board. Its 81 litres of buoyancy suffers a bit at times when my 100kegs jumps on it…I peeled off some nice u-turns but eventually my body caught up with my brain and started to complain.

I came in on about the fourth attempt. I kept on getting sucked into having, just one more crack at a corner. Because I had shown such selfishness, I promptly stood on a bee as I walked back up the grassy slope. I now have a club foot from the bee sting to match to my weird elbow bump. But both of those are being outplayed at the moment by my very sore shoulders and neck. Sound like a whinge? Nope, it was a gold plated Top Ten Fangy Day for sure :-)

Another great day at Fangys, with lots of friendly people, I'll just add to Fangys list, Ratz, who arrived after Fangy left.

Was very up and down when I arrived, to find Rod and JJ trying to work out what to rig. So I decided on 2 boards, the 53 with the 26cm 45d weedy and the 48c board with the 17cm 50d starboard assy, palm, carbon and stainless heavy duty weedy.

Rigged the 5.8 thinking it would handle the lulls on the big board and the gusts on the little board. By the time I was ready to hit the water, there looked to be enough for the little board, ran into a lull 5mins in, but as soon as I thought about changing boards the wind picked back up, and kept me planning the rest of the day.

Only dissapointment, the phone said I had a 35 2s, a 33 5x10 and a 31 NM. The moral of the story is not to trust the phone!!!!!!!

Here's the pixie3 results.

2s 35.602, 5x10 33.200, hr 16.131, 23.148, NM 31.058, dist 76.635

Must admit the fabulous fangy five wasn't on my mind at the time, my brain was suffering freeze out.

Didn't think I'd need my new super winter wettie anymore this year.

^+1 on what JJ said. Plus the top fangy Five for the day too - not bad for a September pensioner.

Trying hard not to be Anita:-) At a his early stage it looks as though a 200+ total is required to be in contention.

CockyPete scored 405 today at Lake Weyba, so my guess of 376 is not outrageous

My distance day at lake George was 441.36

http://www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2014-03-05&team=2

But The chance of getting conditions as good as that at Fangys, and me being able to repeat last years performace are very slim!
