I am missing my Merc. Every dictator since forever has had a Merc as his staff car. With good reason. Peasants don’t point and laugh when you are lording it over them in a Merc. It’s hard to get the same effect in the Bazooki. Today, the peasants were unkind and I suffered lots of pointing and laughing as I departed in the loaded up the Bazooki with boards and jousting sticks. And that just summed up my day nicely.

It started with Sludge, arriving in the morning and plonking himself at the kitchen bench to wait for his espresso. I am always trying to make him feel useful, so I threw my boards in the back of the Mr Whippy van. Sludge promptly took them to John St, while I went to S bend. Trying to choose the right board can be difficult, especially when you have no boards at all.

Pepe arrived and flooded S-Bend with a van full of new board smell. Pepe’s very noice new toy was getting its cherry popped today! Not to be outdone I rigged a sail and attached it to a FF28, and  waited for Sludge to notice that something was amiss with the number of boards in the back of his van.

Eventually the wonder of modern telecommunication saw my boards delivered in a cloud of glitter, that fluttered away and impaled itself on the lone stump that had earlier in the week claimed Pepe’s sail.  The wind was just getting past asthmatic, so I was worried that Swindle would carve me up on the upwind legs. To counter the threat I superglued the FF28 into the Barge and made myself invincible uphill. ( and a little draggy on the downhill.)

I was a bit under done to start with, but the run down the weed banks made up for it, and for a while I enjoyed the ability to do a run down the bank and then tack all the way back up to the top in one hit. The wind swung and freshened and the FF28 became more than I needed, so I started contemplating going in for lunch and swapping fins. Just as I was pondering on whether I was indecisive, the back end of my boom broke and within a split second the front failed in protest at the excessive momentum muscle loading. ( I am pretty sure it's the one I loaned to FNQ Billy, so it's probably a miracle it has lasted this long!)

It seemed a long grovel home with my prototype asymmetric boom, and by the time I got back my forearms were toasted. Time to de-rig and enjoy I quiet lunch, except Weatherman Sam appeared out of grass and settled in for a chat. By the time we had finished having a chin wag I had lost all enthusiasm about re rigging and going out again, so I set about loading up the Bazooki and jousting sticks. I drove off with cruel laughter from the peasants at S-bend echoing in my ears.

Why are people so unkind?

Oh yeah and despite all that, still a Top Ten Groove in the smooth sorta day.

Distance day today, nothing else mattered very much, but sludge may have the fantastic 5 , we'll have to check when he posts.

Started off at 0940, wind was 14av 17gusts forecast to pick up to 24kts. So used the 6.3koncept on the 65cm board with massive filleted deltoid.

This got me up to 25km by 1030, when I figured the wind had picke up enough for the 53cm board. went in to change and have a cuppa, and forgot to charge the watch while I did it. That had me up to 83km by 1230, slugger joined me for lunch. I was tossing up with rigging the 5.8 and 48cm board in case it picked up more. But decided to wait and see. Wind did come up, but I was still fairly comfortable, by arvo soko time the wind had backed off a fair bit. A consult with sluger determined that if we went in and the wind continued to die we'd miss out on sailing time. So we made do with a drink from the camel packs, and kept going. An hour later the wind came back with a vengance, I definately would have been more comfortable on the smaller gear, but by that stage didn't seem worth stuffing around. So did Elmos trick and put both outhaul lines on the lower hole, increasing the outhaul and allowing more twist. This helped a lot, and I kept going until 1730. Slugger followed me in shortly afterwards, but as he was sailing faster than me, he'll have more distance.

My calculator says that's a 346.208 fangy 5

No idea what the bar's set at now, Fangy have you any idea?

Not a good day for me, still not feeling that flash and everything seemed hard work. at least I managed to get out for a reasonable go and on my second session decided to give the 87 a go with the 7.1 which I havent tried before and also pluged in a BP WS which I raked back to 50deg and is 24cm, to my surprise it was an amazing combo and the fin coped with the power of the 7.1 and my weight pretty well. over all pretty happy with my results for the day but not my health. good to catch up with Mike, Slugger and Ross. Missed most others as I left quite early and probably missed the best conditions as well.

Congrats to Mike and Simon on their amazing distance effort, top shelf. Hardie, Mr consistent yet again and Jonski another ripper late session.

I had big hope on the forecast to be on the small gear, but did not happen.. Then stuffed my fav sail RSR5.8 by crashing at the first lap off the shore when hit the ground and put my elbow through the sail Yell.. back to shore and start again! After that I lost my mojo!!

Could not get really confy today for some reason, and feeling out of shape after a week not sailing!!

Had used a diff sail, diff fin, wanted to find a good spot to do HR and A, run was very short 650-700 long, cld not do the A on the shore line coz the 45 deg was catching, so done them on the other side. My HR has like 60 gybes in it.. I failed both Embarassed.. sorry guys

Seeing Fangy going uphill steeper than a ski lift at the olympics, frustrating, watching him break his boom, hilarious, following him home with his trusty steeds hanging out the back of the Bazooki and the jousting poles tied to the wing mirror, priceless.
