NP 6.5 V8 sail with 105L Extreme Slalom (1996 vintage) + 32 cm weed free fin

Well I think the weed won the battle today.

There was more weed than I have ever seen which made it difficuly to get out far eough to get any decent runs and gybing was a bit of a lottery as you did not know if you would collect a huge clump of weed that would try to throw you off the front of the board!! Saw many over the front stacks today, including one from me. No damage done luckily. The further you went out the choppier it got which defeats the idea of trying to sai fast.

Sailed with Mick, Milsy, Pugs and a lot of others from afar. Almost all said the same thing "bloody weed".

Still fun at times even though it was testing of one's courage and patience.

Let's hope the weed situation improves sooner rather than later.

Wallis Lake, NSW, AU. Great to be on water again - been a bit of a drought for wind, in typical autumn fashion. Very gusty WSW, but beaut to be planing again, even if it was on and off and I was underpowered on a 5.5 GTX. Choppy and weedy but that is normal for the sailing club. Lots of people on water, so great fun!

Weed was a huge problem. Not clumps of weed, more like islands of weed. After hitting weed and getting cataputed 4 times I decided to play safe and sail out the back in the chop just to get away from the weed.

Go Matt. First go and incredible results!

Really good day with the 4.7,5.0, 5.8,6.5 and my JP RRW 83, Yellow sub and the tabou rocket 105. Did the alpha and 2 sec peak on the Tabou Rocket and the Naish 6.5 from Andre.

Canton Beach, NSW, AU Very dissapointed today. Had our strongest wind before lunch. Heaps of guys out, and had some heated words with a kiteboarder (wanker) Jamie cut his toe, which was real nasty and needed a few stitches. Good to see the Macquarie boys and welcome to the Team Matty, full house of PB's for you and big congrats on ur numbers. 6.6 gps 100 Patrik 29 weedy and got my top speed on the 7.3 gps 121 falcon 31 jp weedy. wsw 5/18 knts. Thanks heaps Mark J, Sails set well thanks to your instructions  and 100l Patrik is sweet, real sweet. Go marauders!!!!!

Queens Lake, NSW, AU

Sailed with Steve. Had a good day sailing. Been along time between drinks. Was happy with my speed. GPS showed 32.79 Knots but I was knocked back to just under 30 knots. Wind very up & down. No WEED on the lake today. Should have stayed out on the IS 121.

ISonic 121 , 101 , VMG 6.7m, 36cm,31cm JP Weed.

Faclcon 125 (3rd session on it) 8.0 HSM (first time), JP 36 weedy which led to my ultimate downfall.....

Well, interesting session - turned up and it was fading - rigged a 8.0 HSM - I never used it before. Great few runs - these sails are mighty indeed - thanks Mark J, love these things!! Recommend them to anyone. Wind up and down, couple of huge stacks from the weed in front of everyone! Another 5 knots would have been perfect on that sail.

Then the arvo went pear shaped - silly mistake - jumped off the back of the board to clear some weed, straight down on the fin, putting a 3cm slice in my second toe, down to the bone. Huge thanks to Mick, Milsy and few others for helping me strap it back together and stop the bleeding. The generosity of these blokes, and the general atmoshpere of this place and this sport is such a buzz, I am constantly amazed by the friendliness and generosity of these people. what great people to share the stoke with.

End result? 7 stitches and 2 weeks out of the water..... with new sails to play with to boot.....

Had my first go with a GPS today, only one good run throught the weed! We Need More Wind! Only been back on my board for the last 2 months after a ten year break, 14 year old gear went OK.I used a 7m NP Z1 sail and Bic Vivace 149L race board. I got a little frustrated with the weed so I went deeper out into the chop. It was great to meet so many sailors as I have been sailing by myself for so long. Thanks for all the comments!

Great first effort Matt. We're you using your old gear? The weed at Canton sounds pretty solid. Not much fun in the afternoon setting sun.

Great to be back on water, and Great first post and speed Matt D!! Glad to have you on board.

Had a top day on water with everyone today. Some nice new kit on water today up here as well.Pete has a sweet looking Carbon Art 93l to tune in and Azza put his new Pryde 5.8 EVO and JP 54 combo for a run. You looked well underpowerd, but very comfy. Should be nice after a few more sessions!

We had the weed problem up here too. I was so close to a catapult, after hitting this huge raft of weed, that brought me to 5knots from 25, and only just held it together.Very hard to see in the glare, and I had sunnies on!

Congrats everyone on the PB's!!!

Yes I was using my old gear! I think I need a smaller weed fin as I was hitting the bottom in places as well as the weed.

Bad luck Jamie about the toe injury. Nasty accident, lucky for Dr. Mick.

Those JP weed frees do have a sharp trailing edge, give them a bit of a light sand to take the sharpness off. I did exactly the same thing with my 26 cm JP weed free but had booties on at the time. It did still cut right through the sole of the bootie and managed to put a mark across the sole of my foot about 3cm long, but luckily no blood. I was at Umina Beach at the time so any blood in the water is not a good thing there.

Good to meet James F as well as a few other guys like Matt D after over 10 years, as well as the local Marauders crew there. Go guys!
