| the new guy (37314km): 3 categories    Lake Illawarra, WSW 5-15 knots (gusting to 20 as I left!!) Starboard S-Type 104, Loft Switchblade 6.8, 32cm FO weedy It was a bit of a strange westerly today - very light with 30 minute holes then steadily building. A bit like a summer noreaster (but gustier) As I was rigging it was looking very promising, so I switched to the CA SP50. After an hour or so of waiting and slogging I switched back to the floatier s-type. It was just starting to get good when I hit some chop hard out the back and my boom made a disconcerting crack. All seemed well, so I played in the shallow end for a couple of runs, but it kept making that noise. Time to come in. The wind wasn't strong enough for my smaller boom, so I called it a day.

| Roar (11958km): 2 categories Lake Illawarra, NSW, AU supersport 118 / 31 jp weedy / 7.8 mk 4 slalom When we got down there it was b it patchy but went out for a cruise. big holes for about 2 hours . After michael left the wind swung to the north more and came in with a vengence. I was overpowered on 7.8 but couldnt be stuffed slogging thru 200 meters of weed to change sails. added a few more cm of outhaul and the slalom sail became manageable. the trick ifound is the faster you go the easier the sail is to hold. :) was really pushing the 118 Litre board to its limits. Had some nice mini bear aways but still too timid to really push it in those shallow waters with abig fin. On some of those 30kn runs i could hear the rat-a - tat of the fin clipping things in the water - not a happy sound. Had a few a few awesome long runs once the wind filled in.
