Albany, WA, AU

day trip... just got home.

7.1 91 Tdelta20. Was pretty powered at times on the 7m but the killer was the drag of the 20 through the weed. My fastest run was out a bit in the deeper water but then I started playing on the flats but the speeds dropped a bit. Saw Stropp charging for NMs so went up to have a crack. First go fail- big lull so stopped and went back up. Was thinking about things in the water just before I got off at the start of the NM run then wham. lifted foot out of water and blood on toe- spiked by a cobbler in 2 places. DOH! Squeezed as much blood out as I could hoping to clear the poison. As the pain kicked in the wind had dropped so we stood around for a bit waiting for a gust and wondering about how the hell I was going to drive the 4 1/2 hours back with no cruise control and a cobblered right foot... Last time I got whacked it blew up like a football and took about 8 hours before the pain subsided... Figured I had one shot at the NM so that was it- sailing back. Underpowered the whole way and peaked at 39.

Put some aquaear on it thanks to Rodney who thought it might be a good idea, and strangely it wasnt getting much worse... Had some food then decided to keep sailing. Put the 16 in the 47 to try to reduce the weed drag- worked great except the wind had dropped by about 5kts so struggling to peak at 40s. Packed it up in time for the long drive home... By then the pain was pretty much gone in my foot apart from dull throbbing... No idea how I got away with that. Maybe I squeezed out the poison, or maybe it was a goblin fish or something less potent... hmmm

Chris, I had one just like that, was told afterwards that there are devilfish as well as cobblers. A cobbler sting keeps getting more painfull but the devil fish sting starts about the same level but fades away.

Those stories make me glad I'm in NZ. Our eels don't bite and the flounder can't.
