I toyed with going to Point Clear this morning as several mates were going but couldn’t face the early start and might go there on Sunday so three of us headed over to Levington Marina. I arrived at 8.40 after dropping M\ag off so she could have a three walk home in the woods. Michael and Robert were already there and we had to drop off our kit and park away from the launch area because the marina dredging team were working. All the foil boards were quickly set up and it was then choosing a sail, there was some good gusts coming now so, I went with 6m, Michael 5.5 and Robert 5.3 which proved about right for the session. The sun which was out on arrival soon disappeared as I headed out into the WSW breeze which h was easily gusting to 25 knots! I flew across the bay and then had a nice run up to near Pin Mill where I lost the wind, turning I returned and then started beating up towards the docks to join Michael for some gybe practice. Michael is now getting close to flying gybes and I am getting closer but still way short of doing it so far but it is good fun trying although I am not keen on running off the board backwards:) I think the key is entering with good speed but things can go wrong very quick. The river state was perfect for practising as very flat with the big gusts keeping you on your toes, going upwind is no problem but going fast downwind is harder as I get a little nervous when approaching 20 knots! After loads of runs by the docks which was probably the windiest part, I had another couple of runs towards Pin Mill, the foil smoothing out the river chop:) After a couple of fast runs across the bay the wind went patchy and with the tide now turned it was time to call it a day. Another top shower and home nice and early for homemade soup with Mag before a quick walk along a pretty busy prom at Felixstowe:(
