I was keen to get out today to make up for my nightmare session during the week but the only local option is still Nacton Shore and I have never sailed there with the wind WNW. Being Mothering Sunday I was a little nervous of going as parking is a problem as it is a popular spot! After getting a message from Steve Miller who actually lives a stones throw from the Orwell saying there was a nice breeze so I headed over after breakfast arriving around ten and actually managed to get my parking park, not easy as I had my trailer. With the wind supposed to be much lighter than of late I was expecting to foil so when I went to check the conditions there was plenty of water and the wind was blowing straight down the river so it was difficult to judge its strength? I set up the foil taking it to the beach and with the wind probably 10 to 20 knot I rigged my favourite foil sail the Lightning 7m. After wading out to deep water I set off and was soon up and flying, quickly realising I had way too much sail with some big wind blowing down the middle with it being pretty lumpy in the deep-water channel being flatter both sides making it easier when gybing! After a few runs I came ashore, unable to rig anything smaller than my 6m as I haven’t got a 4m mast, I am currently looking for a secondhand Tushingham Freewave 75 in 4.30 and 4.00 if anyone can help? So, I went and got my 133lt. Zantos 295 with a 36 fin in search of some proper windsurf speeds as I haven’t had a decent fin session in months now:( The 7m proved good once out on the fin board and I had a good session with runs of about 800 m taking it easy through the rough channel and having fun gybing in the flatter water each side, when the sun came out it was even better as this is a pretty spot to sail and the wind a good direction for fin sailing:) I was then joined out on the water by Steven Miller with 5.5 on his foil board but he also found the conditions challenging with some big gusts and lumpy channel water! I decided to call it a day as the tide turned as I didn’t want to end up down river with wind with tide! So, a fun 20+ miles and my hand held up pretty well. It was busy now being Mother’s Day with plenty of people walking and the car park was chop’a block! I chatted to one lovely family those Mum had came down for some open water swimming in just a swimming costume, wild horses couldn’t drag couldn’t drag me in there to swim, even though the sun was out there was a good onshore breeze and the water is only 6 degrees so it was definitely a day for had and gloves! I have another problem with my two GT-31 gps devices, one now refuses to switch on and the other is also on its last legs so if anyone has one, they are not using then I would be interested, could be an expensive time ahead as I am also looking for some secondhand Tushingham Lightnings between 5.8 and 7.8. two masts and a Slingshot 65 wing plus our van sadly need two new tyres! I drive home the back way through Levington village and was lucky enough to spot 20 deer close by in a field including a white one to end a nice day. Then at home we get a great video call from our son Robert with Grandson Arlo in good form and then our other son Dan comes for a lovely chat too.

PS - I forgot to mention I spotted a seal too :)
