927 days ago 1 categories Point Grey, WA, AU. Reg and I decided to try Boombas as forecast good and wind appeared ok. Arrived and wind was indeed good in nice direction and dead flat water. Was rigged and headed out at the forecast peak of 2pm just as Reg arrived. Wind immediately swung due west as I launched. Never a good sign as has always dropped to zero when swings NW to W. Had what seemed like 5 minutes (Reg claims it was 10 mins) of gusty holey wind and died to near zero. Limped back to car park to join Reg cursing the metrologists when wind picked up a bit. Headed out again only to notice the main battern broken and again threatening to poke through sail. Wind looked possibly adequate for 6.5 but too much for 8.6 so rigged that and tried again. Never got going but Reg wizzed past and did one fairly ambitious long lap before wind dropped to zero again. (it was almost identical condiditons to when Reg had kept sailing across to Yunderup and never came back). Somehow managed to also get sunscreen in both eyes (not sure why I put it on as there wasn't much sun). I gave up whilst Reg sat waiting out with the rays. In hindsight should have come much earlier (9-12 would have been the sweet spot today). Main highlight was a bunch of rays doing their flying act 1/2 out of the water above the weed of which there was lots...which also meant lots of glass water...just pity there was no wind. Usual setup.
