Liptons bit of fun best speed at Point Grey when wind was more westerly. Simmer 3XS 96/62 TR16 6.3m Pepefoil 23 hybrid  variable rake

Got to Liptons early to give my Bro in law another go on Waricles bigger board. That worked OK.

But I had a disastrous start, everything went wrong that good go wrong.

First time I've spat the dummy in ages! Every thing went wrong, didn't have the GW60 charger cable so couldn't turn it on, (mode button no longer works).

Forgot to check the plug was in the end of the mast, and pushed the mast out of the tip with last downhaul tension.

After pulling it apart and rerigging, the downhaul tension started slipping. Tied a few extra knots, and that seemed OK.

Put the camel pack over my shoulders, slipped arms through straps, and it fell straight to the ground!

Straps were undone, these straps never get undone, any way did then up and had another go. Top straps had fallen off when the pack fell to the ground.
That was the last straw, just had to throw a wobbly. I was all set to give up then, but the two Peters managed to calm me down,
so I went out without camel pack and GW60

Had a half reasonable sail, but the 6.6 was very hard to rotate, It's never done that to me before, it always rotates nicely

Down rigged went home for lunch, came back with smaller gear. anemometer said 20 ave 26 gust, so rigged the 5.2 on the 47 with 17cm deltoid, and went to play in liptons. Wind wasn't getting into the smooth. Wasn't game to sail to Pt Grey with the little board, didn't trust the wind. Fastest run was the first, wind steadily died off, should have rigged the 5.7. But it was nice to be sailing around in relative smooth.

Peel Inlet, WA, AU Mistral speed 95 scr6.3 fangy 18s mk4 Another pleasant sail with Decrepit and Hardie in moderate to fresh SW/S The tide was a bit high and lumpy to get any good speed on the Liptons side, Hards did a bit better over at Point Grey. First go on the scr6.3 mistral combo and 18mk4 fin. Fin behaved nicely in the chop and especially good in the thick weed. Looking forward to sending it in ideal conditions. All in all a great time 😃

Fangyland. Party Barge (Xantos 310)  Avalon 7.0. FF18V4.  Overpowered but had a hoot on the first outing with the V4 - fin was the duck's nuts. Close to a PB on the Barge I would reckon too. Post more later.

I launched from The Hook because the tide was still on the high side and I couldn’t be bothered driving all the way down the far end to Nairns. It doubles my driving time and you know, sometimes that extra 500m is just too far.

Plan A was to chuck in the Barge and give my new FF18V4 a spin. I thought the marriage of the fin with the Barge and 7.0 would be the ultimate test of the top end of the fin and its load carrying ability. Not expecting much, I was just going to do a couple of runs and then come in and change to my FF22.

On the run out from The Hook, I chucked out Plan A and went to Plan Lazy, which to be fair, is my default setting.

So I stayed out for the majority of the session on the Barge until it simply was too windy to hold on. I came in and whacked on the WT Cruise, but by now all my momentum muscle couldn’t hold down the 7.0 and kept getting lifted.

The take home though was, I am super stoked with the fin. Holding 120kegs of Bargearse and Barge with 18cm of fin and bugger all foil thickness is no mean feat. It’s upwind performance was better than expected from such a small foil, it only spun out when I intentionally pushed hard uphill off chop crests and was slippery AF downhill without a hint of mischief. I aimed it at every burg and thick weedy patch and it slipped through like the proverbial hot knife in butter. I cannot wait to set it up on a smaller board and sail combo and really point the toes to see what it can do.

It has been a while, but defo a Top Ten Fangy Day:-)

Nice one Fangy.   Was thinking of joining you today but local kicked in. Your fins definitely work way outside what you would expect their operating envelope to be, and that is with my shit finishing. As a rookie everyone says go smaller board to to go faster...then you, Slowboat, Jay and a few others turn up on huge boards just smok'n it.  Here you are on a 146lt board with an 18 fin and big sail.  Makes all the 'advice' look like crap.   Just means gotta find your own way I guess.

Thank you Benny, Peter and Anita. And well spotted Benny - I would have certainly missed that little milestone!  And just a quick comment Flex: I have no other sailors to compare to who where doing the same course as me, but given the Barge is a 25 year old heavy plastic wobble board, it does do a reasonable job of getting along, but it's no speed demon.  I strongly suspect anyone on a board with less drag would have been a couple of knots quicker on the same course.
