Sailquik (29582km): Lake George, South Australia. Well that was a very wierd session!! A moderate forecast of 20-25 was showing on most models late in the afternoon so I didnt get excited until about 2pm when there suddenly seemed to be wind stiring the trees at the Park. I went out for a look to find 20-25 knots wind reading at the south end of the lake. Drove down to 5 mile expecting 5.7m to be the go. Arrived to see Mark, Maree and Peter Daish out. Contemplating what sail to rig and Maree comes in and asked me to downhaul her 5.2m please, as it was getting to be a handful!! While preparing to do that Mark comes in and says "Dont worry about it, I'll rig the 4.7m for Maree and I'll tale out the 5.2m. OK. I'll rig the 5.2m then and take the IS80 for a look. Well, I got about 1/4 of the way across the lake, fighting like crazy to stay on the water and decided 'NOPE' need to get the CA40 speed board!! Did a u-turn and headed back to shore, bearing away to get back to the car. Holey moley!!! Whoooho!! Was I LIT!!! Stopped at the back and checked my GPS to see a 41.3 peak. Thats a PB for that board for me by about a Knot. 10 minutes later I am out on the CA40 and not feeling anywhere a powered up. Did a few runs and could not crack 38. Whats going on? The wind was steadily moderating and after about half and hour I had to get back to shore before I was stuck out there. I tried for a while on the IS80 again but the wind kept dying so I came in and gave up. IS80, CA40, KA Race 5.2m, Nuclear 16cm and 20cm fins. |
