Great session, one of the best I've had in years.

Warm, sunny, windy and stayed away from race sails.

Nice and the bod lasted ok also.

2nd session with GW52. CA62, TR9 7.0 , T-10 Carbon 35.

20-28knts gusty choppy wsw in open harbour. At times pretty overpowered on 7.0 and should have been on 6.6-6.4 for better control and speed but great fun sailing maxed out while most were on 5.5-6.5 ,,fun times.

Not too sure about the data loaded here, as the raw data showed one 34.28 peak 2 sec with a 33.97 10sec. Nearly got lauched over the handlebars on that one!

Hey Darren,

I've been trying out Al Taylor's (Groundswell) GW52.

He has a Mac, so it's no good to him.

Clunky old thing but 'kind of' ok now that I'm used to it.

Easier to read while sailing than the GT31.

Nice and small physically which means it fits into the likes of the H2O smart phone arm band (which is a very good container).

IMHO, downloading is archaic having to use a utility program and cable.

I guess you loaded the run via KA72?

Analysing the data via GPSAR and it won't do the cubic spline integration and because of this, won't load the data to GPS-SS.

That's a hassle.

Definitely not much of a replacement for the GT series and I guess this is a 'cheap and cheerful' to keep the GPS community happy.

PS...the GW52 readings are way high on the screen because it's recording at 5 Hz as opposed to 1Hz on the GT series.

There are some pretty 'spikey' looking 200ms readings on the info files.

Hey Mike. Should I change the setting to 1Hz then ?.. And yeah I used KA72 to run the data. Not to sure how to 'clear' the GW52 of all track points either.?

To be fair, the only thing I like about it is that you can see what your runs are while sailing, apart from that I'm not very impressed.

I liked the way the GT31 logged separate sessions on the card and they were easy to recover and download...and I could log a waypoint ( read hot fishing spot)

Think I actually prefer my GT31.....but will persist for the time being

I reckon there is probably not much value in the 5Hz other than that it appears to be a little faster (0.1kt on my comparo)

At least on 1Hz you will see something closer to what your 2 sec speed will be.

Although even the 2 sec result is using 3x1 sec readings to get a result so even the 'on screen' 1 sec reading will be faster generally.

Maybe the alphas would be faster but I haven't seen it so far on my runs, compared to the GT31 in the same Aquapac.

Think I will sail with both for a while to compare sessions and incase I get something wrong
