Quick bump and jump at dutchies prior to NY activities.

combat 5.4, Rider x-onshore.

98th session for the year for a total of 5029Km. 15 sessions for Dec.Cool

A happy New Year to all the Pinaroos.

Birdman (2707km):

Manta 69, NP V8 6.5, 31 JP weedie.

Wind 18 - 28knts SW.

Great run Melville ->Wallyworld return.

I have much to learn on this board - it's prepared to do things that I am not yet ready for - especially broad reaching.  Quite scary but great fun.

Nice to catch up with Stringer and Ado amongst others up at Wallyworld.  Good turnout today.

Jeff (13294km):

Mettams to Sorrento, 5m a bit big, 79l Kombat a bit big as well. Some swell around so the downwind stuff very interesting. Great fun.

Carve 131, Arrows 6.8, then Arrows 6, then Ezzy 5.2

A frustrating session at Pelican's. Downsized the sail several times. Just couldn't get it going properly all day.

Managed to crack my (otherwise pristine) board in 2 places. Just bought it 2 days ago Cry.

Toby passed by, so I had a shoulder to cry on...At least the Starboard fin worked well.

I need a smaller board...

A 2010 summary - 48 sessions - 350kms? That's just over 7km per session.  People still post more in a single session. Embarassed

Pinnaroo Point, WA, AU

Short sharp sesh @ Pinnaroo.

Bloody windy (25-30K) and pretty rough and I was fully lit on the 93 S-Type + 6.4 Koncept + 31 JP weedie.

After eating it 3 times in quick succession trying to go fast and broad gave up any aspirations of quick speeds and just tried to enjoy the ballistic conditions.

Pleased with the speeds given the sea state, but kinda wish I'd gone to the river (sounds like Wallyworld was firing!!).

Gave it away after an hour after failing to convince myself that I was having fun anymore. Embarassed

Happy New Year to all the GTC crew and here's to a cracking 2011!!

Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU

85L Sonic, 5.7 Koncept, 32 vector 15 - 20 knots.

Whoo Hoo! I am loving this sail. Two outings and two 2 sec PB's. Felt like my max speed was only limited by my fear factor. I am not used to going that fast!

Great sesh at safety bay pretty lit on the 5.4. Heavy traffic but still pleased with the alpha Smile could have gone deeper on the exit

Sonic 85, Ram 5.4, FO Weedster 28

Thanks for the encouragement and all your great advice in 2010 Mineral.

I would probably be better off today if I applied your advice of the footstraps. I'll do it for the next time, sigh...

While on it, special thanks to all Pinnaroos and a number of people from other groups for your support and encouragement.

Special thanks to the "elders" Mark,  Ben, to Poitnman for letting me hod onto his board for months, Toby and Anita for ongoing support, Mineral for so much great advice, but also unanmed sailors all happy to provide an advice, mentoring...

I never experienced a bunch of people so generous in any other sport. Appreciate it all.

Happy New Year everyone SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Happy New Year, Pinnaroos!

What a way to end 2010, Birdman!Cool That is awesome speed for a board of that width!

Sorry to hear about the board, Obelix Cry. Unfortunately damage can happen when we push our limits but it is how we get better.

Obelix! Cracked your new board! So sad.

I was a bit worried about my pristine new sail too, I think that was one thing that made me back off a little.

Awesome pb's guys, Anita that new sail must feel pretty good Laughing!! Sorry to hear about the new board Obelix Frown, I remember smashing the nose off mine at safety bay years ago in the weed and the very next week after repairs did the same thing again, all part of pushing ones limits!

fear- hah what is that little grasshopper? fear of putting a hole in a sail and taking it to Jesper? Fear of cracking your board and take it to Steve? fear of going faster feeling more in control and punching the air with a wooo hoo ?

congratulations to you grasshopper Anita, now you butterfly!

Obelix, I remember my early hypersonic days its wide short and takes a bit to get going. I found pointing 100 degrees off the wind, angle the sail to match the breeze, it starts to shimmy around a bit, front foot in, and the back foot is an elvis wiggle/ search withthe toe, as your back foot is getting in the board will head more upwind onto the reach, point your toes as they get in thestraps to get it down wind a bit, make sure its level , and then harness up. Dont sheet on too early as this is catapult time before your settled. It took a while and I look back at my diary I didnt really settle down till I had 1 magic day, after 5 sessions of wrong sail, wrong stance, low speed, catapults- actually i did one of those the other day !! Persevere. I feel bad that its not working out for you - Yet!

Thanks Toby,

I got a real bargain with this board, thanks to you, and I appreciate that.
The Carves are universaly liked so it's not the board, but the sailor.

It will work out with time. Need to re-set the straps as per Mineral's instructions, get the board nose protector  once the shops open so I don't repeat Snake's mistake and crack it again next week.

Hmm, I do harness up before i get into straps. If I don't get going at all unless I transfer the weight onto the mast first.  Once it picks up the speed, the front foot goes in, but the rear struggles, then I get catapulted, or turn into the wind.
I think I "dance" more like Forrest Gump, than Elvis.

Toby, I think it is fear for my ribs and my physical self mostly. Gear can be repaired more quickly than I can. I don't want to miss the rest of the season through injury. You should see the bruises I have already!
