Melville Beach, WA, AU

Managed to snag one half-hearted gust and that was pretty much it...

Pinnaroo Point, WA, AU - 90s F2 Sputnik 275, 6.0 Ezzy Infinity

Plenty of wind but couldn't manage any better speed. Took a few scary offs but thankfully no injury or damage. Cool

I always enjoy sailing at Pinnaroo (local spot) but I'm wondering what sort of speeds it's possible to achieve in the choppy conditions.

First couple runs where nicely powered but there where to many yachts out to go for naughties. Tried a few alphas in the flats but the weed was everywhere.

Just as I was getting settled in Greg turned up and it switched off.

Pelican Point, WA, AU

Saw green arrows on the Melville chart while I was at work and I was pumped!

Bailed early and I was on the water just after 4 with my M112 + 7.6 TR9 + 40 Sting set-up pumped for some powered up runs...wasn't to be Cry

Dogged around under-powered for half an hour before calling it.

Sat around for an hour or so waiting for the freeway traffic to abate and it came back in around 6.  I was still rigged, so grabbed the Patrik 135 and had another crack.  Still underdone, but found a few puffs around 17-18K and managed a few planing runs to put the smile back on the dial Cool

Not what I was hoping for, but at least it wasn't a total skunking.

Great little after W word session at Dutchies.

Tide was high enough to go downwind and play in the kiters area much to their annoyance!Innocent

A few reasonable lumps coming through to play on.

That's surprising JJ, it looked pretty windy to me. I wouldn't have thought you'd need the 7.3.

Speed in chop is difficult Geoff. In short, you need flat water for the best speeds. That is why I give tips on where to sail according to wind direction and tide. Sailing in chop does make you better on flat water though.

Geoff

I sail Pinnaroo sometimes because its close and I'd have say its some of the worst chop aroung Perth for speed sailing. Its very difficult to go fast when the chop is coming from random directions like Pinnaroo. The best I've done there is a 29 I think.

I'm sure if you try some different spots you'll pick up a few PB's. The best thing about Pinnaroo is it makes everywhere else seem so easy.

Not to disagree with my learned colleague Grumpy Wink, but it is possible (but not easy) to crack 30s at Pinnas.

I think this is my best sesh there so far...

Having said that I don't often sail there in 25K cos it ain't all that pleasant on race kit.

Greg, thanks a lot for the link - sounds like you had great session and a good work out for sure. Cool It’s inspiring (for me) to see and hear what sort of speeds other team members have achieved at Pinnaroo Pt. I struggled yesterday but will keep pushing…

Fingers crossed for a skunkless day free of stinkboats. Smile
