A north westerly came up this afternoon so I snuck out for a late one. I didn't get on the water till about 4pm but it was still an okay session. A bull rout stung me on my pinky toe the bastard. The cold water numbed it a bit so I Sailed with it okay but it's giving me some curry now. Of all the places to cop a bull rout right on the bloody pinky toe.

It's a small muddy coloured fish that lives on the bottom. If you step on it you imediately feel a stab but a short while later the real pain starts. It can ache for 3 or 4 hours sometimes longer and the affected area is tender for a few days. I didn't feel the initial stab so I think it only got a piece of me and thanks christ for that as my toe is shitting me to tears as it is.

Haven't heard about bull routs since I was a kid. I think they are related to the deadly stone fish from Queensland. Of all the places to be stung by one, probably your little toe is the best spot.

I was stung by one back in the 80's/90's sailboarding off Valentine. I didn't realise at the time with adrenaline etc but B hell when I came in! I didn't know they were still around..
