Coal Point, NSW, AU

CA70 with 6.6. Looked really promising but wasn't. The strangest direction NE I have ever sailed at Coal Point. Ended up almost SE

5 mile Lake George SA - 20-25kts S 5m OD - 79ltre FF - 25cms lessacher fin LW duo. Cripes talkabout a baptism in fire..Surprised one thing to read others posts another to actuall experience it! Got a guided tour to cockies (?) in am ..Cripes I'll kill this SO flat!! ( 10-15kts blowing)..Got to 5 mile and hoped for a guided tour with Daffy and tips  but lost each other..Ugh..In the deep end..

Still not recovered from lack of sleep or trip and heart palps just walking around.Got them rigging and had to sit for 10mins to settle as tried to walk the gear out through the mud.

Tried to wade the board out like a hippo in thigh deep mud almost having a heart attack.. Decided to bech start and to avoid sinking the fin stood right up near the mast but didn't bank on the muddy feet and slipped and catapult over the front.. Wallowing around in mud trying to get to stand up/ position to restart.. By now absolulely stuffed and heart palps doing overtime.. Finally got going and overwpowered choppy ( spoilt by budgy flats..Embarassed) No lovely upwind sailing- hanging off the boom like a bag of spuds absoltuley stuffed...Frown  chop c10inches and I havent sailed the FF much in chop and didnt trust the fin/board or me..speed run 5+ inches chop bit scary. Need to find right spot went too far in trying to get flat stuff and ploughing through mud once. Got 32.56 1st run then 33.03 2nd then just couldnt get a gust in the run..

Locals said mostly 20-23kts /25 but felt like 25-30kts at Budgy to me..

Can't believe how salty the lake its..duh its a salt lake..Embarassed..Got to learn to close my mouth and nose when I fall under the sail trying to wallow start in the mud..swalloed some and felt so ill had to sit for 5mins to revive..ugh..Came in and veged  + eat and then Daffy showed me the waterslide /bum drag to start- synchronised..would have made a great photo.. Wow I'm up and actually feel ok!  Handled the last bit better and got s few ok gybes at the end of the run..Early on I had to stop to clean the boom as so much mud on the boom too slippery to try and grab and gybe and also the sail got a pile of mud on it so much i could hardly lift it and plopping off in big slops..

Would have liked an easier day to get to know the place..I know I need to get higher up to start the run..Hopefully will get easier as i sail there more..urghh

kudos to the other girsl and especailly Salty..I'll have to find my balls i think..ok at Budgy but feel at sea here..

Great stuff Sue.  The mud-bum-drag-water start is a fine skill for Lake George and nothing to be ashamed of!

Sue, do look after yourself! Stop if you get short of breath or your limbs feel heavy and listless like that other time. PB's are great but they're not worth risking your life for.

Well done on the PBs today. Sounds like they were hard work. More to come I expect...

Great pbs Sue. And top recount of the day, had a good laugh and could feel your pain. Keep the stories, and PB's, coming.

Yeah I feel for you Sue. Starting from the other side, Cockies Point may have been less hassle but it is a long arse walk out and back still.

BTW top of the class for the effort and PB's to bootCool

I am waiting for the good news Sue!.....the green grass for rigging, the nice spot for an easy beachstart and the trendy cafes ! So far l am staying at home.

Really, is there no place at this lake to launch  not in the mud?

Laughing yes tibor not very pleasant so far..once i learn to close orifices will be easier (bit hard for someone who can talk under water..) Guys you must be desperate if you think my scores will help you! Laughing looking forwad to a 10_15kt day (if they get them .prob more like out 12_18kt) for a cruisier intro. Few days no wind then maybe Sun will get my cruise..Face is burnt today - I think the wind on a salt caked face isn't good..Frown

Anita forgot my bloodpressure pills so been off them for 4 days-dr today for script. Heart palps settled once out of mud bath but I did look after myself and just stopped until they settled. One thing that worries me is if something happens and you get stuck out there and have to get back as so exhausting trying to walk in the mud..think it would kill me Laughing

Congratulations on the pb's more to come I am sure. I have heard the same from other sailors about the mud and about how and tiring it is. Look after yourself. Pb's are only a number that are not worth much in the grand scheme of things.

Tibor nah all mud. Wish I'd come a few years ago it was sandy bottom, crystal clear and glass Frown

Some pics .Sorry no access to usual editing program so not as good as usual.

Daffy starting his reach across the middle to cockies.

Went to Cockies as part of guided tour with daffy . This is about 11am and there were some guys out in c 10-15kts. They were off the plane at times. Word was they were out for distance so started early. This is where I looked at the flatwater and I thought I'd kill it..Hah! Undecided  Don't know who they are..

I have nore but will have to post later as things are playing up and they won't upload. Light rain here..Tibor..Off to coffe shop  Tongue out

Laughing Brain dead at  the moment Mick.I've been milking him for tips but already forgotten half  Embarassed Does look like I need to push on my fin and trust it.I don't due to riding waveboards with freestyle fins that let go with the slightest presure. He did say I did a good gybe.

Cool
