Kyeemagh, NSW, AU

CA75/MS7.7/T44

Suprising strong noreaster for this time of the year.

Bit ovedone on the big gear at times.

Few DDs out as usual.Short and sweet sail.

Taking it easy as per Dr Powersloshins orders.

Arrived early for the promised breeze. The actual breeze was fun to blast around anyhow.

Had some squirrely runs down the runway and some good cranking returns upwind.

Lots of Demerits and others having fun in the sun.

NE 18-26 knots

For the past few weeks I've been trying to sail 37klms in an hour, which is a 20knt hour. Today I managed 35. Close, but no dice. My harness lines were slightly out and it was a really tiring on my forearms, plus I was super thirsty, but couldn't stop if I wanted a decent hour. It's about 1klm to the runway, so that's about 35 gybes and I planed out of most of them. Man, I really earned that PB today. C'mon 20!

Great to see Barks, John and Craig. Ferris was flyin on his small kit as usual and Conner was looking solid. A few others out. Maybe about 20 all up.

Nice one Nigel.

Longer runs and fewer jibes the route to 20.

Good focus and result on the 1 hour Nigel. You looked like you were on a mission today.

Yes, maybe you need to take a packed lunch and head out to Kurnell and back again to cut out jibe times.

Good going Nigel. planing out of 70 gybes is a feat in itself.

Yes longer runs, less gybes, harness lines adjusted before you really go for it, and a camelbak will help you get there more comfortably.

Cheers Anita/Sue. Umm, I just realised it's only 37 gybes Embarassed hehe.

Well done on the hour PB especially considering the number of gybes in it. I agree with Sue that longer runs are needed to get towards that 20 knot hour level unless one is a gun sailor.

Well done on the PB Nigel.  I think Primbee could be pretty good for a an hour PB in a Westerly.  The one hour is the one that I would like to improve on as mine is a bit average.  Still looking for my GPS.

Yes, definitely Primbee... those runs are so long and flat. Can't wait for the winter westerlies. Hope to see you on the water sometime soon Dean.

Yep back into Nigel.  Come the Westerlies, we should do a trip to Primbee to put a score on the board for DD.

Great PB Nigel, the hour requires stamina and technique which i both lack  Smile

OK I'll vouch for you Dean. For the record. Dean was out early at Kyeemagh and having a good blast around with me. Actually he sailed past me more times than I thought was necessary.

Nigel. You must have just missed him during the change in shift.

I don't know Barks I think you got the better of me most of time.  You where definetly pulling away from me in the gusts.  I really wanted to have a sail with the afternoon shift but had visitors coming over for dinner so was on a promise.  Now where is that stinking GPS unit.

I caught up with Dean in the carpark :)  He was doing great in the marginal conditions early on. One old fella in the carpark even said the guy with the Severne sail was very talented because he was planing all the time :P The DD team is going strong... very active. It's great. If Waiting4wind, Roar and Dean post more we'd be killing it.

Nigel, on the thirsty.... I use a camel back pack type hydration pack. I can easily drink from it while sailing. It is good when going for the hour. Normally take 2+ L of water with me. Probably not ideal in light wind to have the extra weight, but I never notice it holding me back.

Nigel the other thing I was thinking was that pryde lifejacket that has the inbuilt bladder in it.  It is also designed not to ride up so I may purchase one myself soon.

Welcome to the team Peter!!
