20 knot Southerly gusting higher - easing

Early sail with Troy. I've never rigged so badly (harness lines way wrong, outhaul fell apart) or sailed so badly (dropped many gybes). My mind just wasn't on the job today - slightly distracted Smile

That was until I nearly cut a baby shark in half.

I saw a 6-8 inch dorsal fin, maybe 2 - 2 1/2 foot shark cruising on the surface. It was rainy and hard to see at the time - I saw it only about 2-3 metres in front of my board at about 25 knots. I believe I yelled 'Fark' and cranked upwind - pretty much the same reaction as when you see a plastic bag just under the surface. I didn't miss a gybe after that Smile

I dont think my reaction to seeing a shark would be similar in anyway to seeing a plastic bag...😨

I hope your other distraction is going well😝

Glad you avoided a colision Mike.

Seems like lots of them around at the moment. Pretty sure I spotted a big one in the Cooks River, way up near the international airport last week while cycling home from the city to Woolooware. Didn't see a fin, but there was a huge splash and I could see a big dark shape under the water that was at least 6ft long. Too big to be a fish, so unless it was a dolphin, I'm calling shark.
