Billy (10637km): Holloways Beach, QLD, AU Nice little afternoon sesh in the "Holloways Smooth".... Fred and Ben out miles before I got my act into gear. Look reasonable on arrival, steady 15 ish knots. Fred was out on the horizon and going strong and young Ben was sticking to the coast line. Headed out and found it alright. Usual lumpy state with an incoming tide but plenty of flat water in between the waves out wide. There was a definate wind line approx 1k off the beach and the wond seemed to a lot cleaner and solid than closer to the beach. By the time you hit than line though, with the amount of easterly, we were almost in Dr Cams back yard. Hard on the fin coming home just to make it back to the start point with out the walk of shame. Still havnt bettered my open water gybes. Fred was kind enough to point out a couple things on the water that he felt could be improved on, so we will just have to wait for the next session to see if there will be an improvement. Used: CA SL108, 7.5 T4, 40 Sting 11. | ||||||||||||||||||
Freddy Burke (12114km): nice sail with Billy and Benny at Holloways. Was not sure if wind was going to turn up as well so took my 7.3 loft switchblade...... on arrival there were black clouds out to sea and white caps all over....so rigged the kyote 6.6...wind did drop a bit but was still enough to have a nice session. Ian Bailey dropped by as we finished the session to have a gas bag.....and we gas bagged he out. Billy looked good out wide where the the was and Bennny was planning most times I saw him...good stuff. As the afternoon worn on the wind diminished and was hard getting back on the last couple of runs. good afternoon ...good company. Happy fathers dad to all..... Benny McCarthy (14648km): Holloways Beach, QLD, AU Exocet 135 Loft 7.4 Black Project 47.5 Afternoon sail with Billy & Freddo in the slop. Wind looked promising on arrival so opted for the smaller of the 2 sails in the car. Ended up being lighter than expected- was wishing for a bit more grunt... Too much cheese on last night's pizza perhaps! That being said managed some nice planing runs without setting any speed or distance records. Dredged back in, left satisfied. Freddy was scooting about enjoying himself as usual. Billy looked comfy on his new board having fun in passing. Greeted Ian on the beach at the end of the sesh and had a quick chat- look forward to seeing you out on the water sometime soon Ian! "Long May our Big Jibs Draw!"
