sboardcrazy (27738km): ![]() 15-25kts WSW and squall at 35kts odd Packem Pt Lake George, SA, AU 5mOD- 70ltre Patrick - 20FF then 5mOD- 80iso- 21.5FF ( cutdown 24) 4.5m KA koncept - 80 iso - 21.5FF Couldn't get motivated this am so a late 2pm start. Arrived just after a squall that had killed the wind. Icey cold. ( Glynn got 12 degrees windchill at the Spit.) Decided I should try the 70ltre Patrick I've been carrying around all the trip. Wanted to see if the FF would work with it down here. It doesn't like the dredge starts and patchy winds of Budgy. Was great in the gusts especailly as I started to trust the fin and push on it but too many lulls. Did one bearaway which was fun although no decent speed. The iso ( with me on it) bounces over the chop whereas the Patrick just slices through. I'll have to make the effort to get used to it but today I just wanted to have fun. Got the trusty combo of the 80 and larger FF for the '"çhop". First run a squall came through. I could see the water smoking and thought I'd just crouch low and weight the windward rail and be ok. Wrong.. Got lifted attached to the board and thrown..luckily didn't hurt myself.. I didn't want to lose any ground so I dug a foot into the bottom and leaned into the wind and waves as it poured down. Chin deep water and the choppiest part of the lake ,icey , mm this isn't much fun..The coffe lounge is calling..the squall had killed the wind so I slogged in. Lucky I was on the larger board.. Freezing cold and unenthused but then the sun came out , the wind came back and I put my extra wetsuit on ( 2 aldi ones Did a long run to the Spit but the wind was pretty solid from about the boatramp to the spit and I was a bit nervous after being lifted. Came and rigged the 4.6m Koncept I'd just got and back out. Great! Still very powered up but not scary or survival. I found myself looking forward to the gusts and going for it more with a better stance. Had a few goees on the slightly flatter weedbed near the spit but didn't get any decent speed. I think those few runs to the Spit 'comfortably'" powered will be one of my memories of the trip.. Not out very long as I was still a bit tired from yesterday. | ||||||||||||||||||
