F2 Ride 277 with Tushingham Storm 5.2 and Vulcan 6m

Now that’s what I call the waste of a windy:( A strong SSW was forecast with showers and the way the tides were not many options were open. I could have gone to Southend, sailable from one but it would have cost £30 for diesel plus another £7 to park and then the long walk out to The Ray so I thought of my carbon footprint and poor old bones and decided against it. With no water in any of the Rivers or Point Clear it left my home spot of Felixstowe, not one of my favourites especially when its windy! Our original plan was to go to The Manor end where you have more open water away from river mouths but when Andy Mexome ducked out today several of us ended up at the Dip. With high water at 9 we arrived at the beach around midday but no one seemed in any hurry to rig up. We waited for youngster Ed Swain to venture out with 4.5, being a lightweight he seemed OK so the heavier sailors went for 5.7/6m. I rigged my 6m for my F2 Ride 277 at a 100lt and headed out into a very big sea and soon realised it was not a day to go fast so came ashore and swopped to 5.2, even that at times was too big for the horrendous messy sea. If that was windsurfing, I wouldn’t do it. You just have to rig really small and sail very slow which is just not my style, it wouldn’t be so bad if we got proper waves here! You could get off the beach easily enough but then sailed head on into a set of steep waves where you really had to sail slowly and things didn’t improve the further you went out and things actually got worse as the tide turned! You to take it easy going out but if you were not careful you ended up a few groynes upwind making getting back downwind interesting to say the least! I did manage a couple of gybes in the end but not a good day for me although the others sailors had a better day but small sail windsurfing is not for me and I will do my best to avoid it in the future! It is looking better for tomorrow sunny with lighter winds:)
