Bostonfoil (17127km): Valentine, NSW JPHF 135 SB Foil 550/255/85 SS7.0 SW 5 - 25kts Tried the 550 wing for the first time in ages. Just wasnt consistant enough but felt great when powered up, awful when not. I have no idea how I learnt to foil on it for twelve months! Plenty of fun picking paths through the swell. Just the "still frothing after all these years" Gert, switching between fin and foil and the Wingding crew. Almost got cleaned up by another boat!

sboardcrazy (24418km): 10-24kts WSW - SW Coal Point, NSW, AU 7m M2OD- WT64- 35cm Tectonic weedy then 6.6m KA Koncept - WT64- 33cm Makani weedy Got there and it was a patchy 10-18kts. I wanted to see if the 35cm tectonics would rail the board in gusts . I was tired from yesterday and wanted an easy day so I rigged the 7m..Yeah right.. The chop was more regular than yesterday but had some bigger peaks (90cms). The 7m was ok for the lighter stuff but when the stronger patches came through they were stronger and more consistent than yesterday. I was overpowered with the sail and although the fin behaved the board was too flighty ( even with the mast foot forward and tail depowered). No hassles but the hair on the back of my neck was standing up as I went for bearaways.. The speeds weren't that good either. The 35cm will be perfect for the 7.5m in 10-18kts in summer breezes.. It would have been great on the 85ltre WT in the strong stuff but I was having trouble getting back to the launch with the big board and the wind would drop to 10kts for periods..The wind was heading me as I neared Coal and the on and off the plane meant it was harder to point. The big board was getting a bit too much in the bigger chop and wind . I came in and put the 33cm makani on and it was better but I was still too powered in the gusts with the 7m. Couldn't gybe to save myself today.. Dropped one in front of one of the moored boats and had to swim clear to allow space to waterstart ( I would have drifted onto it by the time I got organised).. The water is getting cold to swim in..brr Went in and changed to the usual combo ( 6.6m) and much better. The wind had swung to a better angle by now. I like the Koncept better in the chop and I can also rig the boom lower when I'm overpowered which I can't do with the M2 OD. It was getting fun at the end and I had some great runs..I'm happy with the 2 sec and another 5 x 10 PB ( by a smidge).. Just me on an empty lake which was lucky as I had my hands full at times and it would have been hard to take my eyes off the chop for long.. |
