Melville Beach, WA, AU

Quick blast at Melville - was awesome to see the LTs charging to the top mark.

Grabbas, Watermans, Mettams - 5.0m 920 foil. Wind a little patchy at times but probably would have been ok on the 4.2.

sonic 85, 6.2K, 22FF wind 15 - 18 kn early, 15 - 24 after I dereigged

A cruisy and pleasant day at Coodanup with a lot of sailors out.

The best session I have had for a while but the alphas weren't happening for me today.

Nm was ruined when an oblivious sailor going across the wind caused me to go upwind to avoid a collision right where the flat water was that I was planning to head downwind over to pick up some speed. I had no energy to hang on at the end and no energy for another run.

Coodanup, WA, AU What a way to start 2024! Wind, warm water, sunshine and awesome people! I was initially over confident and rigged a 7m...😳 Didn't last long, downsized to 6m Turbo and my old Tabou rocket. (Probably could have done better on Waricles Carbon art) but I'm very happy with my sail today, had so much fun...isn't that what it's all about? 😎

good day , i should have stayed longer as the wind picked right up after i packed up

lots of people out for the first day of the new year

Gloria you are getting closer to that 26knot mark  well done

as i said before Gloria in 1982 there were only 5 windsurfers that could do 25 knots on a speed board

so if you can get to 26 knots you will be faster then all of them, not forgetting these were very fit guys

not a women in her seventies so i know you can do it, especially if you can get up to those 2 dead trees at the start of the nautical mile run

No wonder you had an enjoyable sail today Gloria, your 2 sec was a second best and your 5X a third best. Well done!

nice sailing all.   Glad no collision Anita.   Like Boz says most likely collision is sailors on same tack but one heading downwind and the other upwind as both in each others blind spot.  Its actually quite dangerous as the upwind sailor is going slow with clear view in front and thus thinks no possible danger.   Likewise the downwind sailor also has nice clear view up front so equally thinks all danger is what they can see with the upcoming chop etc.  The downwind sailor has the most opportunity to see/avoid the situation but if your sail is old/salting up this becomes harder and if you are sending it harder still.   After quite a few close calls in this senario with Boz and Jay if I'm sailing up/cross wind I really try hard looking over my shoulder on the upwind legs plus really pay attention on downwind legs...trouble is most most don't so really gotta take care and look around at all times no matter what you doing.

Flex: Jay was going across the wind but downwind of me. I could see him clearly but he was so focussed on looking ahead I don't think he knew I was there at all. I was going downwind on the nm run. It was hard to tell at first because Jay was going faster but our paths would have intersected if I had not veered upwind. To continue the nm I then needed to sail across Jay's wake and missed out on the flat water, which slowed me down a lot. Unfortunately that was already near the end of my session and I didn't have the fitness to try again. I couldn't hold onto the boom at the end of the run as it was, and had to get the boom in the crook of my elbow to veer upwind to slow down.

The message is: if you are sailing across the wind or upwind across the nm run, look upwind to check you are not on a collision course with someone trying to do a nautical mile

Anita I had a couple of close-ish moments going down wind including having to yell out once but all good in the end.
