Melville

135 Radix, 7.7m apache, 38 mk3. Short sail. Pretty patchy to start with. Best wind was in the middle of the river down from attadale foreshore. Got a sick gust downwind of the second post for a 37.5kt vmax... plodded around hitting 35s then saw Jim and heard him yell "its crap isn't it", and boooooom like that I found a good gust over the sandbar! Next run pretty similar speed, but I was on the clock and had to get home before 5 so that was it. Looked pretty good as I was driving off.

Melville Beach, WA, AU. Wind came in early so plan was get down early in order to get a car park.  Just as I was putting the sunscreen on, received a dodgy text saying 'my package had been delivered' with a dodgy website link.   Since I wasn't expecting any package anytime soon I assumed this was spam.  Heading out the door a few mins later, there was indeed a tiny package sitting on the doorstep.  I opened it and found a tiny waterproof action camera with zero packaging and 5 mounts I'd ordered from Aliexpress just a few days ago that I wasn't expecting for weeks.  This is for embedding in the board to watch the latest skunk works project in action or destruction.   This was one of those "dodgy" orders where there are almost no details including dimensions.  Intrigued and suspicious as felt way to light (36g) to be functional I had to have a little play before sailing. This took longer than expected as I'd managed to throw the perfectly good (but tiny) english (not chinglish) instructions out with envelope it came in.   Was surprised that the video quality was good and camera can livestream wirelessly to my phone whilst recording (not even GoPro can do that)..so can potentially watch the madness in realtime...Currently testing the claimed 3hr battery life and so far looking good.

Anyways, all that meant was I arrived late, car park was chockers so had to rig and launch from the secret spot.  Wind was cranking so rigged the smaller kit as was ready to go from yesterday.  As it was Melville and you can predict, the moment of launch coincided with the wind dropping right off.  Chugged one lap dredging the printed fin repeatedly so decided to cut my losses and head in and upsize.  No sooner had I changed sail and board wind picked right back up plus some.  Now was over powered and this combo not tested before was sketchy, plenty of spinouts and was feeling decidely unsafe and wishing I was back on the smaller kit so pulled the pin as couldn't be bothered changing again.   Slowy was being annoying zooming around effortlessly of course.   Good rigging practice day.

For the record Chris, I yelled "I can't hear crap in this helmet", not "its crap isn't it".   PS The the new cheap arse action cam with claimed 3hr battery life just did 4hrs 13 min video recording with inbuilt battery...bastards lied to me...should I send it back?

Thats a special helmet Jim! Not only can you not hear anything, but it also changes what you say!
