Richo 72 (5640km): Coodanup, WA, AU Noice sesh at Coods in gusty and choppy conditions. Wasn't sure if it would blow at first but some decent wind came in. Out with Flex and a few other locals. FMX 88 6.3 Loft RacingBlade 22 delta speed.
Tim (1030km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU nice arvo at pt grey. Just not quite enough breeze. Nice to meet Joe . Ca 55 tribal 5.8 27sw
Slowboat (47800km): Melville Unexpectedly fresh seabreeze at this time of the season, timed perfectly to test my new "big" speed board that arrived a few days ago. Tribal Rapid 57, Omaha 6.6m, weedspeed 27. Was high tide so pretty choppy, and the wind was all over the place. It freshened up a bit later but by then I had to go and it was also a bit offshore. Normally I wouldn't think of using a speed board at Melville since its almost always either too light/gusty, or too choppy when its on. So we made a bigger speed board for conditions like this! Its much easier than the smaller ones to stay afloat and get going in the lulls, which is perfect for places like Melville, and the usual frontal days we get here when its on. I made the tail of this board proportionally smaller than the smaller speed boards so that I can use it with a shorter fin- both for highest possible speeds when you do land a decent gust, but also for where the water is shallow and you have to use smaller fins- slalom board of similar size needs a longer fin to feel balanced. Plenty of buoyancy for its width (57cm) so its easy to get started and stay afloat in the lulls. Combo was sweet- upwind and gybing no problem, and despite the high tide chop the board felt super safe... Cant wait to light this thing up in some stronger wind. This is going to be my new go-to speed board for WA I think.

Flex (15991km): Coodanup, WA, AU. Wasn't going to make the trip till realised not much wind for sometime. Arrived to find Richo fanging about with the whole place to himself. Didn't have time to improve on yesterdays canard designs so today was longevity test on the rotating foresail canard. Wind was strong when arrived so rigged small then went out, Richo went in and I was underpowered. Did a couple of stop/start laps and almost came in to change up but glad I didn't as wind booted nicely. Not much flat to be found and no chance keeping up with Richo. Wind started to die off and on one gybe fin suddenly lost it. Checked on fin and PETG sheet canard sail had fully sheared and was flapping in the breeze. Wasn't the expected failure point so called it as couldn't be bothered changing fins with what seemed dying wind. Was a nice day in the sun in boardies. 102 RRD xFire, KAR 5.7, FF22 Red Rocket with rotating foresail (or is it forefin or foreskin?). |
