iS101, 6.6 Koncept (Arlington run), 7.5 Koncept (Northern run), 37 SL7 - Green Island, QLD, AU Wind SSE 15 -20knots

Wow, what a day.  Was sailing the eastern run with Gaz waiting for everyone to head over to Arlington and saw Kel about a km out so followed him over.  Swell / chop was similar to Yeppoon although water being slightly deeper (50metres to our 10metres) it was a lot blacker and the odd rogue wave would hit pretty hard.  Kel and I jumped off and both stood on sea urchins, then I asked where we should go, where's safe etc.  Kel then confidently tells me he's never been over here before but we should head down wind as there be a big sandy patch further along.

After about 1Nm the only sand I could see was still in the form of hard coral and was still probably 10,000years away from breaking down into that lovely soft stuff we all lie on at the beach.  Running the inside lines was pure heaven until I clipped the reef and decided that with the out going tide I didn't want to get stuck out there with the Lonegans.  Kel was way ahead of me and thankfully he had a smaller fin.  By this stage I saw everyone arriving further up wind so I made a slow planing hard point back up to them and had a couple shorter runs on the reef edge.  Some great waves crashing onto the reef, some big fish scooting underneath and the most exhilarating place I've sailed.  Amazing to think kamikaze Cam and Troppo did some incredible speeds here only over 2ft of water with a human cheese grater as the bottom.

Headed back back on my own but wind dropped off and ended up slogging for part of the way which made pointing impossible.  Went through a big school of mackeral feeding  and put the thought of tiger sharks to the back of my mind.  Ended up too far down wind and had to tack back out for a better run into GI.  I was so pleased I went to Arlington as I now have a greater appreciation for how crazy Cam really is.

Afternoon northern run was a blast and ended up with a 33.08 max speed on the 101, 7.5 sail and 37 SL7.  Hands gave out in the end and had to come in but GI will be an experience I won't forget in a long while.

A massive thanks to Cam and Catherine for making us feel part of the family and Cam for organising the best unofficial speed sailing non event Wink
