Mackay, QLD, AU

Enjoyable sail at Illawong beach with the Gordon and Matt and a bunch of kites. Conditions up and down and swinging to the east. Never really fully powered up when the tide startted dropping, so best speeds were in the rough stuff. CA SL58, Ezzy Lion 6.5, Sting 34. Nice combination.

Initially thought about going with the iS97/7.8 combo but wind came right in just as I started rigging.  Was powered up (and eventually overpowered) right from the get go.  Got all my decent runs early on when I could still control things but by the half hour mark my arms had blown up as I had to deal with some solid 30knot gusts pushing through with some light storm cells.  Happy with my 2 sec, 5x10 and Nm all things considered (I pulled up early on the nm after it got a bit hairy).  Called it quits when I had one almighty scare almost nosing the board into the side of some wicked swells / chop and arms had stopped working.  Was an effort going broad getting back home too.

Cheers Troy.  Pulled back after a scare although was pretty spent by that stage anyway.  You guys should get this wind by tonight if not already there.  Did sailpilot get out?

Nope. Parking ships. 28knots gusting to 35 at Hay Point not long ago, so the breeze is here with vengeance

Firie, just checked and yep that's a beach 5x10 pb and 3rd best ever.  Never had a 32+ 5x10 so pretty chuffed.  2 sec is half a knot off beach pb. Reckon my naughty could have been close to 30 if I didn't pull out early....yes I'm trying to think of something funny for that last statement ;-)

JJ, Has a lot to do with just how much trust you can put in your fin.

No doubt and you have the best. Could try a bit smaller, maybe?

I've got a Tribal Sl 30cm but reckon it might just be too small cosidering just how much time the board spends out of the water.  I may just give it a go this afternoon and report back.

I reckon it will be sweet downwind if you're properly powered up. Perhaps better with a smaller sail.

My favourite powered up ocean combo is CL SL1 27,  M91, Koncept 6.2. Think I've used the 7m with this combo too.

I carry an alternative fin in the back of my weight jacket - easy to change.
