Andrew Haigh (50494km): Lake George, SA, AU. FF79 with Techtonics 20 then CA44 with Techtonnics 17, both with 5.4 North SE 20-25 and really gusty Great day on the water
Bruce Healey (24403km): Lake George, SA, AU Started early as last day, CASL82, 6.3 19 fin. pretty windy so went to speed board and 5.5. Got very hard going upwind but the reaches were good, if not super flat. Left early to head home.
sboardcrazy (25232km): 5 mile Lake George, SA, AU patchy10-20kts dodgy direction building 20-25 then 25-30kts sse 6.2mOD- RS2(90ltres)-21.5ff then 6.2m - WT57 ( 90ltres) -21.5cm ff (cutdown24) then 5m Mach- 70patrick (48w)- 18.5cm Atomic 4.6m KA - 50ltre (46cmwide) isonic - 18.5cm Atomic A bit of a wasted day.. The plan was to get out early and have fun maybe try for an hr then speed later. I left the big board at home because it was supposed to be strong ..grr Went out on the 90 but it just didn't cut it. The gusts were ok but there were to many lulls and I washaving trouble pointing and getting back to the launch..it seemed more s at 5 mile. Pity as the glass at Cockies was unreal! Pardon lack of caps and spelling but I'm trying to this with an arm in a cast and it's giving me te sh..ts! Decided the WT might be better as it's longer, but it's also narrower so needs more wind.. I wanted to get some gybing practise on it. For my size it's certainlt more technical to gybe. All sorts or weird things were happening. i would hvae been happily doing planing gybes on my slalom gear. got one where I was still moving. Slogged back through the mud again. Rigged the 5m - 70ltre combo. B ballstic! Couldn't pull the sail on properly as the harness lines needed to be further forward so my front arm was sphaghetti by the time I got to the other side and I wasn't sure I'd be able to sail. Really windy and choppy and the boards was bouncing everywhere. Just went back across the chop and survival run in the last little bit of the speed run.Got the 2 sec there. Really tired by now but people were talking of pbs and nice flatwater up the top. I set myself the task of getting to the top and doing one run. Knew I''d be overpowered so lower clew / max downhaul on the 4.6m. Still scarily over the top. Think it's the first time I've been frighteningly overpowered on that combo. Struggled across. No b flatwater! Saw Dezza go past preparing to enter her pb bearaway, totally focused and in control. I went a bit higher up and then went for it. I was pretty nervous so I tried to find some flatter water. Stupidly decided to try a gybe on the 50ltre and stacked it. The board stopped and I was catapulted into the sail. Unfortunately the back of my left wrist took the full impact onto the mast. I knew I'd done some damage... and did I get a PB? b 33kts.. If I supported it it wasn't too painful. I tried to flag someone down but they were to far away. I left the gear stuck in the sand..you don't realise how much you need your arms until you only have one. I couldn't even lift the sail.. Staggered in trying not to fall over in the swan hollows. walked back along the road bawling my eyes out.Not from pain but it was my last day and I was supposed to be doing the 15hr drive home from tomorrow.. How am I going to get home? How am I going to break the news to my partner who always tells me not to hurt myself? Argh!! I'd extended my trip just to get this big day..Should have quit yesterday on a high etc etc.. If I'd known how great everyone was going to be I wouldn't have been so upset. Thanks Maree for helping me out of my wetsuit and ignoring my screches ofpain and swearing. Mark went out and got the gear and sailed it in.. He said I was a long way into the shallows and he went around the front 3x trying to get out. Probably lucky I'd slowed a bit when I went into the turn. Phil for the first aid ( the dr was impressed). Nic sorted out the gear and drove me home. Ambo to Mt Gambier. Xray fractured Radius and Olna.In hospital 2 nights. Specialist pulled it into shape and set it. 5-6 weeks then rehab.. Partner flew down to drive me home..he did eventually say ""Ï told you so".. Don't know what hurt the most, breaking my wrist or stuffing up the best day of the trip..
