The first hint WillyWeather forecast had it wrong was seeing big trees in the hills getting thrashed by gusts. This continued all the way to the boggy foreshore. As I got out my car I had to lean to keep upright. That was the second hint that WW's forecast of a max of 15kts was way off. I started to wish I brought my really small gear. Obs said the average wes deep in the twenties and gusts were punching 35kts. It was very easy to beleive.

It started to lull a bit, but still my 6.2 bucked as I rigged, the NNW swirling around the foreshore. I watched the only other punter, foiling-Sam, do some epic dismounts and later learned his board was called a slingshot, so that checked out. I noticed a fray in the outhaul and procrasticated in fixing it so by 1pm the bullet gusts seemed less frequent, but they still come with no build-up, you just had to now deal with 20% more power than a second ago.

Sam came in and said it was calming a bit and thought I'd be able to handle it, so I plugged in a Rocket30 into my i90 and followed him out again. The first half hour was very intense, but that's where I found the speed. In fact I kept being surprised cause at first, every run was a thirty something: just running across and trying to survive! I did find some clean water and my best run. Some tailwalks were near misses so I dialled it back and the wind was easing anyway. I'd blown my energy in a quick hour, buit glad I got in there. Lesson learneds: pack my little stuff and WillyWeather is dead to me.

North Haven, SA, AU. Hucker 4.2, 85 FSW, 2 different fins. Not a normal weather pattern. N with an incoming tide. Normally does not work except when the gulf water is artic cold. Got to waters edge and it switched on. Then tried to find my zone. Just me out there for an hour with 2 kiters watching me on the beach. Short and sweet session until a 16 storey eBay tanker arrived. Then wind went up stairs after 12. Packed up to host an interstate pal. I heard wind returned in the arv. BOM ACCESS model, and METeye were spot on.
