Benny McCarthy (15230km):
17 days ago Holloways Beach, QLD, AU Was considering heading over to GI today, but a small case of the sniffles made me choose otherwise. Ended up having a very short midday solo sesh off the mudpit at high tide instead. Wind was a nice steady 15kn to begin with, but lots of South in it, so very lumpy water state.
Out for about 40 mins doing short runs staying in closer to the beach before rain clouds came in which killed the breeze. Was my first sail back after about 7 weeks. Severely lacking sailing fitness!!!
Still was great to get out & super stoked to find out on arrival that most of the beach is finally back open (now 1 year after the floods)! There is a couple of new rock groins put in place to combat the sand erosion, which is probably clever, & they don't seem to pose any problems for us windsurfers on first inspection. The most exciting part I found was being able to park up close to the beach again with a tap handy, shaded grass area for rigging, then literally a 10 metre hike to plonk the board in the water & get going- sometimes the simple things are the best!
Used the Jag 125, Severne 7.8 M4, Venom 48
