kato (37699km): Started the day with a visit to the chiro to fix my back, he offered to redo it tomorrow after I said that I would be windsurfing in an 1hr....at full cost of course Only did 3 runs as the wind didn,t come in early so we were chasing an incoming tide with solid 40 to 50 kt winds. As it was a bit windy I was forced to walk most of the way back instead of the usual sail. I hate walking in soft sand and I can get more runs in. Did the first run as the change hit with the 5.0...... 39.1kt run Crap!!!. Rig a bit big and badly set up as its been a while. 2nd run was done with the 4.4 40.8kt run.... again setting all wrong, sail too flat ,boom too low. 3rd run...boom ,right height .....sail baged out nicely...... mast position good....go 43.9kt ...better. Its been a year since i,ve had a run on this board and I can,t remember the last time I used the 5.0 and the 4.4 has only see the water twice for the total of 4 runs....no wonder I,m a bit rusty. It a shame that the tide was a bit wrong today cos there was a few pbs to be had today .Aldo and Matt looked very fast, with both testing the limits of their fins Daffy took it a bit easy as Ludertiz is next week.

Sailquik (29598km): Bloody Windy!!!! I commented that I thought it was well over 50 knots in the prolonged squalls. I don't think it got much below 40 knots even between the squalls. Massive clouds of sand and horizontal stinging rain. The water was smoking a lot of the time. A couple of times trying to walk back I had to sit on my sail with my back to the wind. Nose and mouth filling up with sand and the rain stinging the back of my neck. Later we saw that the Yanakie weather station had 40-50 knots right through our session! And it is a couple of KM inland! Prom peaked at 89 knots or 165kmh!!
A little too strong for a little old man like me!
Riggd 2013 4.2m Koncept and still could not put the power on. Did 44.63 peak standing up sheeted out!
At least I didn't have any crashs that hurt me.
The first time I came out from behing the dunes a 50 knots squall hit and just swatted me off the water. By the time I swam after my gear and swam it to the bank against the squall I felt like I had swum across Bass Straight! :-)
I managed two runs out of control, so no 5 x 10 sec. Peak was 44.63 knots, 10 sec was 43.48. Good enough in those manic conditions.
Looks like a chance for good wind on Saturday as well.
Ado (4489km): Crazy day. Just managed to squeeze out five runs. Very happy though given the rough conditions. It's three PB's for me! Peak. 10sec = 45.168 and 500m = 44.876. If the tides were more favourable we would all have been setting new PB's. My first three runs were 44.5 10 sec average, but then the tide rushed in and skunked us, meaning my fourth was only 42 and the last a dismal 35 in choppy 40 knots of wind and very square. Max gust at the Prom was 88 knots. Well done to Matt on his PB's!
Isaac (12111km): Primbee, NSW, AU 50 knots plus
Mathew Robertson (8362km): Sandy Point, VIC, AU KA Koncept 4.0, KA Assy 20, F2 Missile XS, 6 kg lead Wind NW for most of the morning, finally swung W after the tide already coming in making the water somewhat rough. Had a good run for one run where the wind had backed off for a 10 mins, allowing the water state to settle a little bit... giving the best run. Had a bit-off when I hit the sandbank... couldn't see the edge of water, given all the sand flying through the air. |
