iS97, 7.0 Loft Blade, 37 KA Sl - Lammermoor Beach, QLD, AU NNE 19 - 22kn

Unexpected seabreeze came in early and I thought I'd join the State Youth Championship fleet going for honours in Keppel Bay but they had called racing off before I got on the water as it got too rough for them.  First sail since getting back from Vietnam and could really feel those extra kilos I picked up - cheap beer and beautiful food my downfall.

Really enjoying the sail and was looking for a decent hour but alas, 35 minutes in my boom cracked at the harness lines.  Maybe I should spread them further apart to stop a 95kg point loading Embarassed.  Met Luke Ballieu's dad, the Sterlings, Pat O'Brien and a few other seabreezers up here for the State titles also.

disappointing day. Rain hail sunshine and plenty of wind. Not enough runs down the strip and was too buggered by the time the SW kicked in.

what a day good to be sailing on small gear, first on the water high tide ventured out with 6.6 and missle very west and up and down

up the western end bank was getting lifted of the water and got catapulted so did a run back to the sw bank but to westerly so got a few more runs up the west end,by now a few more had ventured out and wind had swung just a litle, enough to use the top half of the sw bank but just couldnt get settled with the 6.6

I did a up winder to west bank to get back to car park ,while at west bank trying to water start a 30 plus gust came through and flattend me and forced my head through the main panel ,the love affair with the 6.6 was over .shot back to the car park and got out the 5.7 concept ,bumped into Kel from Burrum on way out she had a 5 on ,we did the run back to the west bank and over to the midle bank , i kept looking back at kel cause the 5.7 was powered and thought she would be strugling but was fine . first run down sw bank got a 39 and then cranked out a few 40,s on the next couple of runs , i was stoked .Tongue out

No sight of Rick yet he was still hiding in the car park but then noticed him trying to lauch from top of the sw bank in the dreded no wind zone , only very experianced victorians seem to be able to lauch from this spot .....

Went in to make a few ajustments to 5.7 and on the relauch got smashed right in front of Rick , iwas a good 50 mtrs away but i could still here the f ing Surprised Then the swall of the day hit and hit hard , i was in the water tring to start and the hail was bouncing of the board and into my face, all around you could see saillers in the water tring to get back up then Spotty came flying through it all and i watched him disapear down the coarse .The dream of smashing a new pb was over ,spent the next 3 hours till dark watching clouds hopping another big one hit. but still rapped  the gear 5.7 concept and the fisrt of the old missle 66ltr and the 23 sym ka fin another great holiday at sandy great to meet more of the NSW crew pritty good turn out .

For those that know sandy point this is taken from the start of the speed strip and you can see the feint green buoys on the inside bank in the distance. I lined up for a run and was trying to get on the plane (didnt know this was coming) and would have sailed into close to 50knot gusts and hail with a 5.8 if i didnt fall off. I could have been a hero or dead Cool .

Taken just as the gust and hail hit. You can see the sand whipping of the bank which was probably just sailable... then it got much worse. You can see me failing to launch and the sailor in front of me blocking my path was Luca ..... he will do anything to make sure i dont beat him !! haha

Luca,

Well done on theh 5x10 PB.  Sounds like conditions weren't great so all the more impressive for your results.  Long drive home for you two now.

Tricky, The ring around the middle is more like a truck tyre after Nam.  Wife and I are missing the great food dearly although if I had stayed any longer I reckon I could have hit the ton.
