5274 days ago Sailed the new Isonic 86 Slim for the first time today, also first time with the Casper Select 31cm (and 3rd time 5.9 Code Red). This was an awesome combo and the board was really flying. Left Sandy bay with Dave around 1pm and sailed down wind in a really strong NW. Well done Dave who was using the 6.5 Code Red in those conditions. We sailed to South Arm and waited for the Southerly change to come in and we tanked back to SBay. The first 20 minutes was insane and was averaging high 20s, then the wind backed off. Absolutely stocked with the new board, feels totally different and a bit sinkier than the 08 76.

5274 days ago  A great day on the water. It was 34 degrees and blowing a gale as Steve and I rigged at Sandy Bay at around 12:30 PM. Plan was to sail downwind with the NWér and then try to sail back in the Southerly change that was forecast around mid afternoon. However, was only meant to be 26 degrees and the NWér was only meant to be 15-25, not howling as it was (danger signs!!). Anyway went out and got blasted for a bit, but wind settled down and we headed off the wind. We were both aiming for a 1 hr, but after about 30 minutes we got stuck at the end of the NWér and in the distance a SWér was blowing, so we were literally becalmed in all of this horrible chop. SWér won out so we continued off the wind, but pointing a bit more now. Eventually made it to the inside of South Arm whe the wind died completely (I got a bit further than Steve with my floatier board). Waited, hoping a SE cold change would come through!! It did. Literally, white caps and cold wind suddenly appeared (off shore in the bay we were in). I started off downwind (heading back north). Probably started this too early as the remians of the NW chop was still there, making for a bumpy ride. Never-the-less, still good, and blowing about 25 knots!! Many sections in the middle of the bay flattened right out and gave some absolutely awesome runs (did my 30.88 NM here). Got to the end of the bay we were in and had to head back across into the Derwent River. Hardly any wind there, like it was a different day altogether, and still heaps of horrible NW chop. Came off the plane and dogged for a few minutes and then managed to get back on the plane again and keep going, albeit at a slower pace and still in horrible chop. After completing a 1 hour, kept going off the wind for another 10 minutes until level with Sandy Bay, then did about 3 runs back across the river to add a bit of mileage.
Though we weren't sailing together, could see where Steve was most of the time.
Sailing Starboard 2010 iSonic 94, Severne Code Red 6.5 and C3 venom 36cm. The whole kit felt great. Very powered up at times, but the gear never faultered.
Hobart, Hobart Airport and Droughty Point weather stations all had gusts over 40 knots recorded while we were out and I felt a few of those come through, making it impossible to sail at times, with it being just a matter of trying to keep upright, dogging along out of the footstraps. Hopefully our scores today will help bump us up the rankings a bit (aye Izaak)!!!
