Good session, at first wind was up and down. Went out on 7m x15 but then put harness hook through just it just above the first batten! So went back out with 6.3, occasionally felt a bit underpowered but most of the time it was okay. Had a break and got cold, went back out and toes froze and had cramps in both thighs out of depth, it was a little scary at first then I managed to get up on the board, had one last run, then the biggest breakfast roll I could find. Nice, near my upper target for distance for the month now - done 40nm, need to do another 10more tomorrow.

Damn, .22 off joining the 30 club! So close.....

Great fun session at the Ray, SW winds meant the best speeds were done on the corner of the 2 courses, not quite fully powered up on 6.2. Nice to see the Portland hit squad made the trip, Will T was flying ( must be fatherhood done him good Lol), Well done to Mike G with first 40max ( 10s average next mike). All in all a good day if not quite perfect conditions, more please!

First time in Southend!  If you don't mind rigging up on dog shit grass and then walking 3/4 of a mile through mud with your kit...its a great place!  If I can get over the trauma I would love to have another go in more wind.

Simon Harris (434km):

First time putting a sail > than 6m on the little board. Struggled a little but its good experience. Change of  fin this time though and no  spin out and bad wipeouts so happy. Don’t have to explain to Mrs H or the boss at work why I look so roughed up! A good turn out today which makes it all more fun too. Didn’t get to see everyone from the team but will in time.

I trotted up wind for a while in prep for  a mile run to back up Ian only for the wind to drop. Abandoned the run thinking I would have another go and then didn't make it as  the wind  dropped more.  I only hope someone else did better than me on this. Its a lesson for me, I should have carried on with the run.

A good call to head for Southend today Tricky conditions spent a while trying to work out where best to sail but came good in the end. Good crowd out, with some great speeds and PB's well done to all.

Thought the 6.4 would be plenty but definately needed more on the downwind runs. Consistently just under 30Kt so more power or less drag required.

Thankyou Normski, you too were hammering it past ferrybridge a few times.

Griff - Good set of PB's there, its so nice aiming for a different one every session according to wind direction.

It was the first time I have really gone for speed runs and felt comfortable and knew I can get a lot more with better technique. First few I found my wind awareness had to change as was just bearing off straight downwind from the academy to the peninsula, but after a while I realised I needed to get my speed up across the wind then bear away. My last run was the fastest, but my toes were so painful by this point and I had leg cramps, and was salivating at the thought of a hot sandwich from bites.

Earlier on I got several runs just above 30 but not enough above for 10secs average so I rigged the 7.0, then promptly went in with a crap waterstart and used my harness hook as a sail killer. Its fixed now with tape and should hold as its only a small puncture.

The Mistral 95sl is now quickly becoming my weapon of choice as it felt comfortable today, even with the 6.3simmer on which I found heavy in all past sessions, this session it just took the gust and held really well. I did appreciate this on the trek upwind as it was damn lumpy out in the chop about 2/3 of the way to the academy, and gusty! I just need a session with more west in it to have a good old practice with my gybes on the board without worrying about losing ground downwind for speed runs. I made a couple but clearly stalled which is why the nm and alpha times are 0.

Great to see so many people out in January.

Duncan, in future just email me the files, or Swags and we will sort them for you. If you have problems with Java then install firefox and it should sort it, did for me.

Checked my Alpha as produced by GPSarPro and no way was it right when reviewing the track, deleted and reposted to gps-speedsurfing manually and updated here. I was surprised as it appeared to be an all time PB, used the 2nd one listed by the software which looks genuine on the track.

Is this a first? The Matrix does not have the 2sec, or 5x10average for the month now. Great speeds Ian, Jim and Simon!

I guess we will have to wait for The Matrix Reloaded.

Great to see you some of you guys in Southend. Cracking day!

Duncan: Try changing the command in gpsarpro.bat to "java -Xmx512m -jar gpsarPro.jar". A while back my machine refused to load GpsarPro and that did the trick for me (i.e. changing max memory from 1024 to 512).

Welcome aboard Adam! How did you manage such speeds without travelling anywhere? No distance result for the day, at least that will be an easy PB to beat. Did you not stay for sunday, it was another cracking day with more consistent wind down the academy end.
