New boom, and it didn't go BOOM!

Carbon fibre is the way to go if you can afford it. Wow, so stable and direct.

Nice days winter sailing in a 20-25kt southerly. Surprisingly consistent according to the airport wind meter.

wind

Peak at 29.4, not bad given my lack of training/fitness.

MauiSails 7.0 TR6, MauiSails carbon boom (wave 180-230), 92L Exocett and 2 fins, 35cm select s7 and 32 Nitro.

Happy Dayz - but sooooo cold.

Kyeemagh, southerly around 20 knots

Starboard S-Type 104, Loft Switchblade 6.8, 30cm select viper

Well that solves the mystery of the creaking boom last week - it was the mast slowly letting go. First run of the day today, I onlt got a five hundred metres out then the top of the sail disappeared with a bang. 30 minute swim followed by a trudge along the beach with all my gear on my head. It's surprisingly heavy when it's all tied into one unit!

Re rigging and my board blew across the path, banging the fin. Soooo, now it lets go at about 28 knots. Time to get out the sandpaper...

Other than that, it was a great day out - good to see Tim and Ads back out on the small gear.

Absolutely buggered by 3pm. I think my 30 minute swim and walk took it out of me...

Brrrr, glad I've got a good wetsuit. First sail in aaaaaaaages. Very gusty but good fun. Nowhere near as windy as what was forecast. Nice to see Sean over at the Bay for once and good to blaze around with Conan Jnr.

Great to be out on the water, funny up and down wind. Got pretty choppy at the end. Great to see some faces I have not seen for a while.

18-25 Southerly. JP 65 Slalom VI, Talon 36,  NP RS6 7.2

Another one of my humbling slalom sessions in slightly over powered conditions for a 7mt sail. It didn't look that windy, & indeed some might say, it wasn't?...Note to self;....."stop, wait a bit & think before you rig"!

That's the teacher coming out in you Ads. Nothing beats a practical though! No fun breaking gear.I crashed through my 6.0 the other day, and sailing half a sail was a revelation I didn't need either.

Might have some SW - WSW coming up next week. You may need a break from your routine and head up for a weekend? Cheers.
