Wellington Point, QLD, AU

JP 118L, Gastra gtx 8.0, Bp 37.5 womd 2-22 ktn

Excitting run, especially for novice like me on Welllington Point.

At first i did run accross to Wynnum or Manly, good 4 km one way on good chop in the middle.

Dissapointed with alpha but my mistake was possibly distance more then 50m on entry and exit.

OK you won possibly beer today, lets me check your results.

Congratulation Goerge !! Just 0.08 missing !!!!

I hope for nautical mile today at least but it seems the Wellington Point is not a walk in the park, chop is not smaller that on our Shearwater at this wind.

Congratulation both of you for going ove 30 knots, well done. Sorry I'm letting you down on that one. Still can't get 30 knots, I think I should seriously think about going for smaller fin. I was tinkering whole afternoon with different setups but am still not sure what works and what doesn't.

Well at least alpha is getting better but still missing few tens to get 20. Perhaps next weekend, no more sailing midweek for me, have to work long hours    Cry

But I suppose the distance between waves would be much longer at Wellington Point or not? So you can ride in the chanel for a while before skipping over to another one.

Wellington Point seems to be tricky, if you don't know it well . Somehow Glen hit 40 ktn today but he know where to sail and obviously on speed board not big slalom.

But at my first run accross I was well overpowered. Then small tweek - more downhaul and out haul and completely different feels- now my  8.0 was just fine but I have only poblem with chop at this speed.

For Wellington Point we need more Easterly to work, then shold be flatter.

Next time I should try much smaller board - something like 80 liters there and sail 6.3 to 7 max.

But guys, Next week will be 30 to 40 ktn here !!!!!

Are you prepared to sail ????

I don't know what time you sailed Peter but 8.0 sounds quite big. Most guys there were on 6-7m, probably 7.8 early in the day like Vando. I agree with the small board and sail. I'm just thinking about JP 55 speed/slalom and 6.2 reflex III or 4. I'm just a little bit concerned it my be used 4 times a year and collect the dust in the garage.

Red, I have used my new JP SP50 64lts so far since getting it in June about 8 time so well worth having a speed board. I was worried it was not going to be used much so am very happy now I got it.

Thanks Boombuster, that's nice to hear. I always like the new toys. Could you comment how difficult is to handle these boards in a medium chop? Or is it no no, flat water only board. JP 55 would be probably a little bit more forgiving as it's a cross slalom board as well. Do you have the lates 2014 JP model?
