Melville Beach, WA, AU

Very variable wind, but still a sail in winter.

RRD 98, Koncept 5.5, CL weed 29.

Didn't feel comfortable and was getting out of breath after each run. I know I am getting old but this seemed more than I expected. Talked to Tom Radis who gave me a great tip: my crash vest is too tight and constricting my chest. I changed to my old, loose bouyancy vest and felt not only lesss beeathless but also a lot freer. Thanks Tom.

Safety Bay, WA, AU M47 K 5.7 24 elmo weedy. The perfect combo for the conditions. Reasonably consistent wind - 20 - 25 knots, nice flat water (eggcarton chop) off the end of the sand spit and nice shallow water across the bar. Unfortunately the wind direction meant we were going for speed runs across the bar rather than down it, so you'd just be accelerating nicely and then you were into the ramps which made for some exciting deceleration!

My best speed since last time I sailed at Safety Bay. Got 31.5 on the first run, which didn't even feel fast. Sorry I couldn't improve much on that.

A great team outing with JJ, Geoff, Lezzz and Alan. No other GPSTC people there.

Safety Bay, WA, AU

Fun day with Norts and Geoff, Anita and Lezz.

Started at 11 with the M112 and 6.6m, wind increased to about 25 knots - got 36 knots on the display.

Decided to change down and the wind promptly dropped back to about 20 knots. Couldn't get down the run as the wind was too westerly but fun trying to accelerate quickly going across the sandbank.

Got really shallow at the end, tried the 20 fin in the M91 which was interesting, so chucked the speed board on for a few runs.

A fun session at Safety Bay and it was nice to catch up again with the crew and have a chat.

I'll keep my post succint as Anita and Jon have already given a good account of the conditions...

Was happy with the 2s peak today as it's the best one I've had using the 6.0 Ezzy and 90s Seatrend combination (34.24 on the display). Have only had a better 2s peak 'on this board' using a 5.3 Tushingham Lightning. Upgrades for summer imminent. Smile

105 rocket, 6m remedy, 26 weed, I did just over 30 kts but my new gps did not record it. It is not in the internal memory and not on the card. I just finished setting it and testing now and it recorded ok. By the time Anita pointed me to the speed spot I was getting numb and it became too shallow. Still best sailing for a while.

I can vouch for Lezzz doing over 30 knots, I saw it on his GPS display.

Great persistence JJ, to record the top WA speed of the day again.

Geoff, glad you decided to come out of hibernation. Your efforts helped move us up one spot on the table, improving our 2 sec and 5X.

Fabulous team turn out today for a wet and windy weekday. Thanks for the support!

For those thinking of sailing at Safety Bay, the sandbar is very variable in depth at present. The weed clumps are holding it together but in between the sand has been washed away, so it varied yesterday from thigh deep to shin deep within a meter or so. Shallowest at the southern end.

Great speeds. I ended up sailing down at Avalon. It was a little onshore but good size waves. I should have waited for the late session at Gearies where the wind turned sideshore and the waves turned on for real.. Cheers

Great speed Windxtasy! Whats' your best windstrength for best times? I find 20-25kts is my best ( water conditions depending).
