Rigged too big at 6.6 Koncept with 98 Xfire and 29 CL weedy.
Did not have time to change to a smaller sail because we are going out tonight. Swapped board to 80 Xfire which was better but stiil overpowered so gave up before I injured something.
Nice of Jake to let me have a good parking spot. Saw Patrick looking sheepish without GPS and expecting to get a smart talking to from the Captain, and Mike who was happily wearing his.

3380 days ago Early session at Dutchies.
After the last couple of sessions on the wrong kit decided to put the bigger fins back in the twin and rig the 5.4 with the extra downhaul. Rope broke with a big bang and replaced it with formuline. Wondering why you would produce an extension without it? I know it is more expensive but it made downhauling so much smoother!
Selection was just right apart from having to shift the lines back a touch.
Had a ball getting some cracking gybes of the rollers and even some nice wave rides on the inside section to the North.
Sailed up to the South of the groyne as the wind kicked in and the hordes arrived getting a few waves before calling it quits when the wind really booted and it became really choppy.
Did try to do some of the non-planing loop drills but didn't feel like I was doing it right. Still no loops but a big smile on the dial anyway!

Another Odd Seabreeze. Came in at 3pm looking reasonable 15-17knots then died off around 430, very strange especially when it seemed to be looking pretty good up the coast. Still good to have a cruise with the locals again.

I had a strange sensation today, I was overpowered! That hasn't happened since last year! Got on the water about 4PM (which proved to be the peak of it) and wanted to be powered up. Thought I'd start with practicing some gybes, but was very unsuccessful due to being over powered, so I thought I might as well try some speed runs. Geoff said he was also overpowered going into the gybes, but hadn't managed much speed on the run (33) and there were so many kiters it was dangerous. Looking up the run I noticed some weed sticking right out of the water even though the rest of the run was knee deep or more, so I waded up to check it out (so to that person who later asked if it was me they saw walking upwind, that is why). There is quite a large stretch on the eastern side of the channel which is very shallow. An island is forming there. We were lucky it was proud of the water when we saw it because shortly later it was under water (just) and would have been very treacherous for the unwary. It is about half way between the first two green channel markers, and extends for about 10 m or so along the channel. So after a bit of depth checking I decided to go for a run. First run clear of kiters and 29. That was a bit disappointing (the speed, not the lack of kiters) given there was plenty of wind, but then I noted the wind had backed off a bit. My back was hurting too (probably from being thrown off those during those gybes earlier) and I was having difficulty flipping the sail because of the pain, but I thought I'd give the run another go and this time wait for the wind to pick up again. Second run felt good, (still clear of kiters - most of them went home about 4.30) and I was disappointed to see only 31 (I'm not happy with anything less than 32 these days). My back was hurting more so I thought I'd better stop. If I had registered the speed was 31.8 I probably would have had one more run but it was probably best to call it a day. I am now comfy with a hot wheat bag, and hope I can bend over in the morning.
Thanks Geoff for the company. You probably should have told me you were getting 37's and then I would have tried harder!
Hard to understand why we should both feel overpowered on the gybes and yet not be able to get good speeds on the run, which whilst it was not flat, produced no disturbance to the board at all. Suggestions welcome...
Edit - I had to write lots because Geoff said he was over writing stories and I had to write enough for the two of us...
