Quick session on Estuary this morning with Dan W. I enjoyed that sail in the gusty southerly. Some big gusts were coming down! Had a couple of real nice bear aways lucky the gusts hit me just as I got into the flater water.

Christchurch Estuary, NZ ...Great 61st birthday present to myself this morning, I finally broke 30 knots.

Speed over 100 metres - 30.46 knots

Best 10 second speed - 30.241 knots

Fanatic Falcon 90, 33 fin, 6.0 sail

..came at a high price though not long after went out with a smaller 32 fin and ran aground highup in the estuary. Avoided a big catapult only because the fin was ripped out and immediately lost. Then I was trapped on wrong side of the course of the Avon. Made mistake of separating board and rig in the shallow water to try and keep control of them more easily walking downwind in the strong winds, which was working OK until I got out of my depth and swimming in the Avon channel. The board was ripped out of my hand by the strong winds, I instinctively let go my rig and swam after my board. ..Lost the whole rig as a consequence - I really liked that sail as well. ..Its possible its sunk to the bottom of deep water up near the red bouy. ..But anyway anybody sailing up there keep in mind its a potential obstacle if its lying on the bottom in shallow water.

..

By the way I take my hat off to those fella's who can go into a gybe at 30 knots.

Thanks Mike. ..And thanks Dan, see you there at 3.30pm then, much appreciate your help. Think it will be a mission though, its a long way out - unless by chance its drifted back in.

Huge tide tonight, 3.0m at Lyttleton. Well up the stop bank outside my house.

Rig could be travelling a bit.

Thanks Dan, ..we had a thorough search for my rig yesterday, but didn't find it. I had binoculars with me and pretty sure its not in shallow areas of the estuary. Seems likely it has probably sucked down in deep water in the course of the Avon, maybe somewhere near the red bouy.
