When you get thrown off the horse...get back on and ride him hard. Well that's what I did today. Solid 5.6 weether and time to put the hammer down. Choppy as hell and no sandbar to hide behind so into the channel and let the beast off the leash. Nice to hear Bitching Betty belting out 39, ended up with a 38.916 knot peak.....I'll take it. Never been that fast in the river without a sandbar before so the training and weight loss are paying off. Neck was fine and no reprecussions after the big off a few days ago. Knocked out 2 24 knot alphas and 6 23 knot ones for good measure. Been a hell of a July for windsurfing this year.

Sailed a 5.8 Ezzy Tiger on a 107 JP Freestyle Wave.  Switched to a JP 93 Freestyle Wave with a 5.2 Ezzy Tiger and then went to a 4.7 Ezzy Panther with a 79 liter JP.  I saw a hot shot guy out sailing and thought I would race him.  We raced down wind and I caught up to him.  He started to race back up wind and I couldn't keep up with his slalom board and fin.  I quit early because here at Floras it will be my 9th day sailing back to back.  : )

Cheers

Rolfe

RD, NICE! Uping the numbers each day. Looking forward to your tracks at Cape Sebastian if you surf sail there tomorrow!!

RD, notice something about your downwind race track? You were bearing off more than during your normal 'back and forthing' (BAFing) and each track earned you another segment that counted towards your 5x10 average. The point I learned from Roo is that you need to REALLY bear off so you are flying over the back of the chop/swell in order to get the speed (not that I have, but when I do get a little speed, it is always faster than the BAFing. I know you are aware of this but maybe not the amount of bearing off required. Roo, if you read this and I'm all wrong or want to add pointers, please do so ASAP :) - Thanks!

Oh, and nice NM considering the number of jibes required to do a NM at Floras! Laughing

Great job RD, you're killing it down there at the lake. Expect to see lots more PBs when you get back to the Gorge.

Here's the latest update on the 2017 USA Speed Challenge over on GPS-Speedsurfing.com

August 1st, 2017

To date 77 sessions have been entered so far in 2017 by 6 different sailors. The overall ranking remains unchanged but Alexander Sosnin improved his best 100m speed to 35.73 knots and still leads the NE division. Washoe Lake seems to be back in play for the SW division with Boris and Denis eagerly anticipating the next good blow to get into the 40 knot range. Meanwhile in the Gorge the sandbar at Hood River was washed away in the Spring along with Lyle sandbar that has silted up. A potential location out near Maryhill may produce some decent speeds when the wind switches back on after the current heatwave.

The overall 2017 100m ranking is:

1. Kean Rogers 41.09 knots

2. Boris Vujasinovic 38.632 knots

3. Denis Savelyev 38.086 knots

4. Dean Withrow 36.53 knots

5. Alexander Sosnin 35.73 knots

6. Barton Brown 28.95 knots.

Divisional Rankings as of June 15, 2017

NW: 1. Kean Rogers 41.09 knots
NE:  1. Alexander Sosnin 35.73 knots
SW: 1. Boris Vujasinovic 38.632 knots
