Elmo (31413km): JP HF 135L, NP Alpha 5.8m, NP RSRE6 6.4m, NP flight AL Morning flight at Frankies on my Pat Malone. Wind was blowing 8-15knots ESE when I got there so I pussied up and rigged a wave sail as the wind looked stronger offshore. Unfortunately it was stronger out there as well as having some massive holes between the gusts which made things a bit tricky. After the second run the wind dropped further so a chugg back to base flapping the sail to change to the 6.4 Almost changed to the 7.0, thank fark I didn't cause the holes got bigger as did the gusts. That said I got some nice flights with for me, some reasonable control. Getting closer to nailing the back loop, 2/5ths around today ending in a nice tabletop before gravity called me back to the water, not fun watching all the kit following you down. Whole lotta muppety fun and a gtreat way to shed a headache. From sailing Frankies to visiting Frankenfurters tonight with my Chicky What a day
Shane121 (6794km): Albany, WA, AU Harding rd with the usual suspects . Tide was slowly coming in and wind not the best at the beginning but picked up later in the arvo . Still a awesome day on the water with the sun shining JP 101, NP EVO5 7.0, JP 25 weedy
Morts (16066km): Lilacs, Albany, WA, AU
Loft S'blade 6.8, JP Slalom 102 + FF24, Sonic 85L + FF20 for the last bit.
Started off quite marginal but filled in enough to make for a fun sail. Usual suspects S&S plus Fergus, Gary & Glenn who has just returned to sailing. Cliff was also out but he was on the Kite so that doesn't count
Hour & Alpha on the big board with the best speeds late in the session on the Sonic. Felt really comfortable on the JP but really need to play with the rig/board/fin combo for the Sonic as the rig balance was totally different.
Oh yeah & don't believe any of that load of old cobblers Steve's been spinning about me being faster than him, gave me a right thrashing on all points of sailing today
Still yet to get a good Albany NM in this season

evets (21500km): Lilacs ISO 105 Tr16 7.0 peepecarbonweed then Jp54 tr16 7.0 FF20 What a fun session that was. Wind filled in nicely for a cruisy first part to the session with Morts, Shane , Fergus (who after few sessions sailing is now gybing remarkably reliably 😮😎) and Glen with a cameo by kiter Cliff. Got cross with myself when I fell off in during two gybes in the hour. First when I found I had just one hand on the boom soon after starting a gybe. That guickly transitioned from a one handed lay down to a sans board forward loop. Then later I tried to do a step gybe without managing to get foot out of front strap 😂 I tried a few bear aways on the iso but I have never managed to make it go fast. Great to see Glen happier with his sailing today . I can see him becoming a regular next season. Sail rotated very well today , the Maui sails method of turning the cams works well. The pepecarbon weed was made by the master for the weedy conditions at Albany and the isonic. It is brilliant, thanks again Pepe for applying your talent to making a fin that works so well. I think my reasonable board speed today had a lot to do with kit changes! I changed down haul rope this week as a precaution after snapping my inhaul in a huge crash this year. I asked for formuline and my local chandler, he sold me a Kevlar cored rope. The outer sleeve stripped off when i down hauled on the first time of use yesterday leaving about 5 mm less down haul than recommend. Sail worked far better due to this. For the first time in ages I was quicker than Jeremy, I predict that will last minutes before Morts is leaving me behind in his wake again 😬 Came in to pack up and as always Shane had thrashed my 2 sec speed. Shanes speed on the bigger board is a credit to him. I cannot get close on a 100 litre board. As we were standing on the grass discussing how again Shane had predictably shamed us with his board speed the wind appeared to be picking up so Jeremy and I decided to put on smaller boards but same sails. So I turned my gps back on and went for it. That part of the session was also a lot of fun, the FangyFin 20 is a tad on the small side for the 54/7.0 combo but I had really enjoyed myself . It goes so well through the weed and was great for the nm runs. Fangy has mentioned these fins are not intended for large sails, Inthinknproviding the tail of the board is not so wide the fin is out of the water during a gybe they work fine. I will admit to getting a sore back due to the contorted stance needed to sail close to the wind to get to the start of the nm run. The mile runs were really enjoyable as the tide was high enough to sail over the southern sand bar. The result of that is a good entry speed. The drawback is taht the run becomes a bit ripply over its whole length as the weed is all submerged. Mayhaps that is a first world problem. Wearing a spring suit and rashy i got a bit cold as the afternoon progressed. That will teach me not to fall in. Lilacs is such a great location. We are very fortunate😊
Hardie (35741km): Sandy Point, skunked by wind, but maintained a positive attitude, so glad to be in and on water, rather than driving for 4 and half days soilid. Great to catch up with Daffy, and other Viccos, the people being the most enjoyable part of the day. Thanks heaps to Daffy for bringing a bigger board out, and superb hospitality Mistral Speed, 95/55, TR16 6.3m Pepeweed 22/48 all too small. Saw a 31kt peak, rest were mid to high 20's |
