Kalmus, Cape Cod. Lovely low tide session. Was tempted to take out the slalom board, but between crowds on the beach from a soccer tournament and incoming rain, stuck to freestyle gear. At least my body finally remembers how to do the few things it could do last year. Amazing how slow you can plane when staying switch after a jibe .. will require more practice.

PD 115, Sailloft Ultimate 7.0, F-HOT RS3 38

5-30 KT, gusty on and off wind, but super warm weather and water made it for enjoyable afternoon at the lake.

The wind wasn't perfect but it was nice to sail relatively flat water.

First half on 115L Manta, 7.5 Koncept, VMax 41cm (same gear I used last two days at Washoe), great combo no tune-up needed, then tried 98L Manta and Hot Rod 33cm with the same sail, that didn't feel that great maybe because I haven't sailed 98L for a long time or might need a tune, it's hard to understand what is wrong in gusty conditions.

Good @ Boris, not far from PB.

Good to see the two of you out on the same day! Nice alpha, Boro - your second fastest, and it would be the second-fastest for the US except for Taty Smile

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story (i.e. fake news), here's the fastest alpha in the USA. https://www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx?mnu=user&val=51558&uid=433&spotid=1479

Great turn Boro, Pyramid Lake seems to be the perfect spot for them.

Roo, I am sure Peter was refering to this years rankings. We all know you are the all time @ man Laughing. But you better get back to practicing, havent seen any great ones lately...

There is a sweet spot there at Pyramid Lake with perfectly flat water for jibing but pre-run is choppy and wind is never steady, so still not perfect for alphas. Max speed was only 31 knots.

Actually, I have to correct myself. Peter's statement is correct even for all time GPSTC rankings.

Did you notice this is GPSTC, Roo? Anyone can post whatever numbers he likes on GPS-Speedsurfing.com. On GPSTC, there's at least the obligation to produce the data files to support numbers if requested. And the fastest alpha you have ever posted on GPSTC is 25.05 knots.

Whatever the numbers are, I have sailed with both Roo and Boro for a week in Hatteras, where we also had a little competition. Boro managed to win five out of six categories. Roo managed to win one (http://boardsurfr.blogspot.com/2016/04/obx-wind-pictures-and-results.html). Boro won one long-distance race and placed third overall; Roo did not compete. From what I've seen, it's not even close between these two.

Maybe Roo was able to get a 26.96 knot alpha 9 years ago when he was younger, but with a 500 m straight line speed of just a knot more (28.11 knot), one has to wonder. Three other guys have exactly the same alpha number on GPS-Speedsurfing.com, but their 500 m speeds and top speeds are 3-7 knots higher: Dennis Klaaijsen (35.54 kn 500 m, 41.81 kn max); Remco Kes (33.97 kn 500 m, 39.27 kn top speed); and David Van der Veken (32.74 kn 500 m, 39.88 kn max). Pete Young, who has an alpha of 26.94 kn listed, posted a 500 m speed of 40.7 knots. Craig Spottiswood with an alpha of 27.26 had a 500 m speed of 41.95. And so on.

Or maybe Roo's posting is comparable to the one that currently claims the #1 spot for 2 second average with 108 knots:

You two should start a new team together LaughingLaughingLaughing. That way you could have your own space to argue and accuse eachother of lying and cheating.

Thing is, Peter didn't lie and Roo didn't cheat, so cool off you two and get back to sailing.

BTW Peter, I finished second overall on long distance race missing out on first place by only five seconds. Coming back to claim it next year Wink.

I wouldn't worry about it Boro, I've been called worse...doesn't bother me. When you live in such a gorgeous location in a country getting greater every day what's not to like. Took your advice and had a great afternoon's sailing!Cool

Interesting. That 24.87 number is obviously not real, but it is from a real gps track coming from Garmin Fenix 3 HR. If someone wants to analyze and figure out why gps-speedsurfing thinks the alpha is so high I should still have the track available.
