Hardie (35741km): Swan Bay, Queenscliffe, VIC, What a sensational sail that was. Thanks so much to RED (Brent D) from Connowere Cremasters for inviting me down and showing me all the speed runs. What a great place this is, my new fave place in Victoria, need something to eat then more.
Mission today, 1. meet Red and enjoy his company. Accomplished. 2. Don;t hurt myself in unknown territory. Accomplished. Put the ego away, forget the numbers and go for pure enjoyment. Accomplished. .
Swan bay is a little bit like the peel estuary, shallow water estuary with weed. Not the same density of weed, nor as flat water, but Bret said it gets much better than today.
Gear Mistral Speed 55/95 Rigged samll on purpose which I think enhanced my enjoyment, it reduced the fear factor and I could just go for it. TRX 5.5m Pepefoil 21/48
Decrepit (54506km): 1st sail at Lake George this year. Not a good intro! I can live with the water level, very reminisent of Boombas, but we were back to Winter sailing today, cold and very gusty shifting wind mainly from the wsw. Launched from the 3 mile bend, wind was side on, straight 4km run to the spit. Spent ages procastrinating on what to rig. Finally went with the 43cm board, (the 48 was on the roof, with the 53, and I measured a 36knot gust. I didn't feel like risking the boards blowing off.) plugged in the 20cm 40 to 60 deg weedy, (what weed there was, was under the surface). Rigged the 5.0 koncept. This worked great when I lined up a decent gust with the flat spot out from the spit. But was fairly hopeless when the wind dropped, Spent a while trying to water start, just made it back to the 3 mile, and the wind dropped out. Had some food while waiting, but when the wind came back I was too cold to do more than a couple of runs. packed it in and warmed up

We see tomorrow if can get out the bed ah ah ah It was cold , the wind ON and OFF but if you could time it right, it was actually a pretty dam good session . Pitty the direction wasnt as forecasted, we could not use the Spit run!! I would have love this see the boys belting down. Next time.. Herbie, RSR5.4, Pepe fillet 20 Happy Days

Day 2 of Australia’s straitest road trip. Great to have a sail with Sam the man, Special Rob and Slugster over at the spit. Conditions today were comparable to Boombas in the winter. Broke some stuff, ate a doughnut, drank some beer life’s good 😎 |
