Great session playing in the swell near the Jetty. Stoked to pass 20knots and to do a NM of full flight. Really is a spectacular place to foil. 0 doughnuts but plenty of beer and a smile on the dial :) life’s good

2625 days ago 1 categories Elwood, Port Phillip, Melb, Vic, Hmm, how do I say this without offending my Viccco friends. Firstly, My gear was too small for the conditions when I sailed planed 10% of the time. SEcondly, When I did get planing I was reminded why I moved to Western Australia (The Worst chop and water state I have ever sailed for water in 10 to 15kts of wind range). Seabreeze was forecast to be 15 to 20kts, which from memory tended to be one of the better seabreezes they get) but was lucky to be 10 to 15kts for the 2 hrs I was out. After endless water starts out in the deep I was done, so packed up and went for a walk, By 6pm the wind filled in to the forecast 15 to 20kts (with about 16 to 18 sailors out all planing), and I probably would've got going on the gear Im had, but by then I was finished for the day. I feel so blessed to live in WA, and everytime I go for a windsurfing holiday out of the state I seem to windsurf less than I would at home The highlight if this trip has been meeting new windsurfing friends, catching up with my South Australian friends, My Vicco friends, and my Family over here in Melb. iSonic 90, 60w/90L, TR16 6.3m Pepeweed 28/48
PS, The windsurfing highlights were my first sail at Lake George sailing super fast squarish to the wind on the Spit, and my sail with Red on Swan Bay speedsailing on the flats going for it with a smallish sail.
PPS. Plans are to stay a bit longer here with my family and then leave melb early Thursday am, and drive to SA, to try and sail Lake George on the THursday and Friday if the forecast holds, and then hopefully start the drive back home to Mandurah on the Saturday and proabably take about 3 days, wont do my usual mad rush back?
Edit: Reposted numbers from KA72

2625 days ago 1 categories Not a real good day for me!
Wanted to try Nina's 89l 59cm Falcon. And do some tests' with Johnski's and my motions. But I'd left the 6.5 koncept at home, so had to go with the 6.2. So wasn't going to be a great day right from the start.
Of course, none of my fins fit in the falcon, even with quarter of an hour sanding. Kato kindly lent me a big weedy, trouble was I couldn't find water deep enough to get it off the bottom. Peter tha found a blackprojects that did the job. But I just couldn't get comfortable on the board, I needed longer gusts to actually figure out what I was doing. Almost got planning a couple of times, but as I hooked in the gust stopped. So decided to try my 53cm board, longer nad narrower, and I'm used to it. plugged the 21cm@55 into it. felt more comfortable but had much the same result, gusts weren't long enough. I'd given up and was walking back when Kato pulled up alongside. He offered me a go on his gear, much bigger board and 7.9m2 sail. Seemed like a good idea until I lifted the sail off the water and realised how buggered I was, took a lot of effort for me to get that sail off the water. But hopped on the board, gave the sail a pump to rotate it, with zero result, tried a bit harder, still nothing. Just too exhausted, so handed Kato his gear back. Came back to shore and rested for half an hour before derigging. Came home and colapsed on the lounge. This infected cyst on my back combined with the antibiotics, must be taking more out of me than I thought. Perhaps I better have a few quiet days until the antibiotics actually do something!
