One of the seasons first good Easterlies. It was honking 25-30 in the morning but forecast to drop out mid arvo. Low tide was 3-30pm but I was confident it would hang on to at least 20kts. It was reading 16-26 on the beach so I took a punt on the speed board and 5.1m. It was a struggle to get going at times, but there were a few good gusts. Got one good one and very close to a 40 peak, but it was obvious it was dying so i came in a switched to the IS80 slalom board with the same 5.2m sail. I didnt wat to use a pointer fin with bits of floating weed, so I tried a 23cm Vector weed I had sitting around for a while. It worked OK but it was probably a bit small. Should have used the 27cm Tribal weedspeed, but one has to try stuff to find out. I was still underdoner and it was getting lighter quickly so a few more runs and called it quites.
I have never seen the water in the inlet so brown. We have had over a meter of rain in the last couple of months and all the small creeks feeding the inlet are flowing strongly. Mmmm... Tannin...
The Easterly speed bank has changed a lot over winter and I think it will be quite a bit better than the last few years when we get the common summer Nor'Easters.
