Point Grey bit of fun, though very gusty, heard one guy had a 44kt run so if you could time a gust it was on. Had a 40.315kt peak, but conditions were too gusty to register 2sec 40kt for me, certainly better than working. Nude 54/80 TR18 5.9m Pepefoil 21/45

Fangyland with a bit of a mob, lots of wind and a high tide to provide a little bit of lumpy goodness. But the main story is that it’s a Top Ten Fangy day! It has taken a while for the day to come, but finally it did and it was time to baptise the AtomicFangy150. The board is the lovechild of my nonconformist preferences and Mr Love,(Martin Love @ Atomic) who supplied the reality side of the design equation. The new Barge was manufactured to spec plus a little bit more by Mark at M_Oz Customs. 150 litres of unfashionably long and on the skinny side, with full thickness cut outs in its chunky bum, it’s designed to be my light wind, flat water board. Just in case, Mark beefed up the construction to FSW level with wood and carbon to cope with the possible elephant loading in the stomp zone from my feet. Despite its size and strength it still only weighed in at 7.5kgs, which is about half the weight of the current Barge I reckon.

Of course the forecast was for anything but a light wind flat water shake down cruise, but as we all know, a new toy has to be christened regardless of the conditions. So in the face of gusts into the low 20 knots I rigged the small stuff and chucked the new Barge in the water. Not surprisingly it immediately became apparent that this was not the day to be trying to tune the settings on a 150litre board. And of course, I had everything in the wrong spot. A little bit of on-water fiddling improved things but I was really uncomfortable and felt very overpowered and unable to sheet in unless there was a bit of a lull. When I did manage to find a lull and actually get things under control, the board appeared to have no vices and hinted of being good at its intended use, that is a light wind, big sail bit of gear. Overall it was no real test of its abilities, but I am really keen for a lesser breeze to really give it a whirl.

Great afternoon sailing with my son at Coodanup. It was bumpier than normal which led to a few slide outs.

Pt Grey for a change, tide was going to be too high for Fangys, and I felt like a change. Wind was good so went with the PB set up 5.2, 48cm and 17cm@55.

Board and sail were fine, but fin may have been a mistake, no surface weed just a fine scattering on the bottom, also no flat where the wind was. The 20cm@40/60 would have handled the chop better and given me more confidence. (Next time)

There will be some good speeds posted, some of the fastest sailors in the state were there. Slowy, Strop, Stretch, Woody, Boz, Ant, Jai, and probably some others I've forgotten.

Apart from the wind direction being a bit too South creating a shadow in Pt Grey smooth. It was a very nice arvo. My second excursion in boardies this summer. The water at Pt Grey is nice and warm, the dark bottom and shallow water, heats it up very quick.

This is the reason, it's hard to get a parking spot at the moment. Lots of people coming to see the giant.

JP Speed 54, NP RSR E6 6.4m, Pepe weed 23cm

Stinker of a headache all day, got a bit of a reprieve whilst sailing back with a vengance now.

Had a nice sail, but struggled to find the gusts, first squirt set the theme of the day, 37 knot first run which was all well and good till I ran out of gust and almost fell in backwards, couldn't seem to link gusts together there was just a gust then a hole.

Still it was nice.
